Just recently I had another friends computer upgraded with the following:
17" Case w/300 W
Gigabyte 8SR533
P4 1.6 478 Pin 512K Cache
DDR Ram: 256MB PC333
So far the only problem is that starts up on its own
He has it shut off, comes home, and finds it is running.
The o/s is Windows XP
I would like to see the problem resolved quickly, as he is a University Student, and is going back soon.
Any suggestions? Hardware, Software, Bios, XP setting.???
Thanks in advance for your help.
Also, he has a LG Burner, DVD Player and 2 harddrives, 16 and 40
I wonder if the 300 watt supply is enough.

Have you done a search for trojans? Swatit is freeware and Tau Scan is supposed to be better and they have a free month trial.
Otherwise you have tried going to "schedule tasks" in the control panel right?
I don't know much so I assume you have tried these yourself but that is all I can come up with off the top of my head

One item I would check is a bios setting.
State after power failure.
It might be set to on, which means if his power goes out when it comes back on his computer will start.
just a thought.

Check Jon's reply about the power settings, but does your friend have a nosy mother, sister or other family member? It could be as simple as that.

There's also a bios setting that will turn on the pc at a certain time, you can check for that too.

I recommend a shaman, monk or priest one of them should work. Anyways why don't he just flip the switch on the PSU to off after turning the computer off?

Now would you really want to do that everytime you left? I think not.
