undo it all please
i have tried several tweaking programs suggested by this site,
including the speedguide web patch, cablenut and others
i want to reset all concerned settings on my computer
it has done nothing but go downhill on speed
i have a amd k6-2 450, 256 mb ram , connection with cableone.net -->supposed to be a 800kb/s connection, my roommates comp. gets that, i dont(cablemodem split by a 3com home ethernet gateway router) running windows 98 se, internet explorer 6. i can handle manual registry editing, if that s what it takes. my roommates computer is identical in the network card, operating system and active running programs, but his is a 166mhz comp w/ about 48 mb ram. HELP!!! this is driving me nuts.

TCP options string = 020405b401010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 64240
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2569.6 kbps (321.2 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1027.84 kbps (128.48 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 33 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

OK great, first install the vtcp 386 patch then use the following settings in CableNut:
BcastNameQueryCount - 1
BcastQueryTimeout - 100
BSDUrgent - 1
CacheTimeout - 600000
DefaultRecvWindow - 32120
DefaultTTL - 64
EnableDNS - 0
GlobalMaxTcpWindoSize - 32120
KeepAliveInterval - 500
KeepAliveTime - 14400000
Lanabase - 0
LocalCopyMade - 1
MaxConnections - 64
MaxConnectRetries - 5
MaxDataRetries - 64
NameTableSize - 255
NameSrvQueryTimeout - 100
PMTUBlackHoleDetect - 0
PMTUDiscovery - 1
RoutingBufSize - 146432
RoutingPackets - 100
SackOpts - 1
SessionKeepAlive - 7200
SessionTableSize - 255
Size/Small/Medium/Large - 3
Tcp1323Opts - 0
TcpTimedWaitDelay - 30
MaxDupAcks - 2
DefaultTOS - 92
IGMPLevel - 2
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server - 10
MaxConnectionsPerServer - 8
Also do the following:
1. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.
2. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.
3. Clear your temporary internet files.
4. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.
5. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot, anything checked in red is spyware and safe to remove.
Please post back after doing all of the above and let me know if it helped.

that helped with the images loading and constant refreshing, everything runs fine, but my roommate still gets 800kb/s download and i now get 540kb/s
i've swapped router jacks and cables, but it makes no difference
why could this be, i have much more of a computer than he does, both our specs are listed earlier in this thread.

the problem here is the location
the same comp, same setting, same cable modem, same ISP. Everything are same but just different location give me different speed
my old house just 2 block far from my new apartment but when i move here the internet speed much faster than when i was in the old house
another reason i can think of is the cable quality
if the quality of the cable is good maybe it give you a little bit faster in the speed

Did you bypass the router and hook directly into the modem? Have you replaced your CAT5 cable? Is your pc the same distance from the router as his? Could there be any interference on your cable from the router i.e. too close to an electrical wire? Did you install CableNut and do the tweaks I suggested? CableNut will overright any previous settings so it's best if you use it rather than manually edit things.

I will be gald to help you in any way I can but you need to answer my questions. Just because I posted for you to try something doesn't mean you actually did try it, I ask everyone to read my Help & Tips link and then people post back insinuating they have but then ask questions that I have answered in that thread...... proving they did not read it or try what I suggested. Sorry to go on and on but it seems that lately ALLOT of people are doing this and it gets quite frustrating. Please give me a list of what you have tried already so we can eliminate those things as the problem.
