Lens for SLR
Here is some more information on that type of lens. Interesting reading while searching. It seems that Perkin-Elmer made these mirror lenses about 30 years ago for the military. They are not well suited to 'normal' photography, but they certainly are interesting.

Thanks for the link, Dakota. I'm familiar with the Mak type lens but they didn't interest me when they were introduced. A good friend bought one at the time. I don't need one and have little use for one, just decided I wanted one.
I like the portability so I got one last night:

(It'll keep me from spending several times more for a conventional super tellie).

Hey, the lens came this evening and, get this, the guy delivered it personally!
It's only 15 miles from Glendale to Santa Monica but a trip through LA is not something to be taken lightly. I missed him so he left it next door.
It's a beauty. Like a brand new 25-year-old optic. I'll see if I can get some topless beach pix for you.

Well, I got a mount for it and fixed it to a camera today. Had to rub some graphite on the rotating tripod mount to free it up. Tried different viewfinders and focussing screens. Plain gound glass works best. It really snaps into focus. By-the-way, it's 600mm. Closest focus is 23'. Add a 29mm extension tube and it comes down to 15'. I'm in the market now for a variable one.
No pictures with it yet but here's a picture of it:

It doesn't have a case so I'll probably make something up. I like ratty looking stuff. My most-used camera bag is made from an old gas mask bag, lined with foam, and it holds a camera and three lenses.

Well, just eyeballing the half moon tonight I find that the infinity stop is not right-on but I think I remember reading that it's a characteristic of this type of lens. It will overfocus so that's OK.
One thing of interest is that my 300mm telly with a doubler (same magnification) is noticeably sharper in the viewfinder. Oh well.
I haven't carried it any further than my patio yet. Need to make up a carrying case first.
