Well, I recently built my first rig, it is pretty sweet, but the heat is killing me, at first, it started at no load at around 50°C, all is well I thought, at workload it would hit 55°C, a lot...but nothing to get frantic about..right? After about a week, the temperatures rose significantly, a side of the case is now opened and I plan on getting a house fan and throwing it right near the case for the time being, but for now, the normal temperature is about 55 and the workload is about 64...Is this too high? can I continue doing what I plan to do within the week? I'm also planning on buying the volcano 9 hsf as right now I have a Antec fan which supports up to 2100+.
Those temps are pretty high bro. You should've got the Volcano 9 first, add a little AS3 and then slap that pupy on there. My temps are 39c idle and 44-45c full load and my vcore at present speed is 2.05v.
hmm, thanks for the input, newegg is currently out right now [damn] so i'll just get the house fans running till then, hopefully i'll also get a job so I can stop bumming off my parents :]
Are you sure you've got the HSF mounted the right way around? If you're not OC'd, even with a little generic HSF it should run much cooler than that. If it came with pre-applied compound, did you peel the paper backing off? Insufficient air may not be the problem.
Hi Gundamflare. My XP 1800 runs at a constant 53 degrees with Arctic Silver and the ThermalTake Volcano 7+. I'll admit that the fan is on low, so it could be cooler, but the rig runs just fine at that temp.
BTW, I'm always at full load with the folding running in the background.

Yet again, thanks, i'm hoping to get it under 53ºC without going crazy. I'll go take a look at the heat sink fan and maybe reapply the last of the arctic silver 2 [ty again el_bob]
