My friend is installing a modem on his XP machine (don't have the specs, but shouldn't matter for this question).
During install, XP says that the product does not have a Microsoft digital signature, and his install aborts.
Does XP absolutely have to have 100 percent Microsoft compliant hardware? I've seen this message before on my 98se, and it always says "This software does not have a Microsoft digital signature. Would you like to continue with the installation?" or something along those lines.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. The modem is a Motorola v90 56k - not sure of the model but can find out if necessary.
He says XP says there is no signature, do you wish to continue? When he says yes, it installs. Then after a reboot it redetects the same modem, and he has to reinstall again, with the same result, etc.
sounds to me like a poorly written driver. have him go into safe mode..and make sure ALL modems are removed and that there are no duplicates of things like cdroms..etc.. then reboot into normal mode..let it ask for the drivers and have him install the latest ones (get from net if u can). they do not have to be digitally signed, that just means that MS has tested the hardware and driver w/ windows. just hit continue anyway.
