bought my new car
I finally bought the jetta.
2003 Jetta GLS all black with alloy wheels.
didnt get the 1.8 turbo in it though....as it is my insurance went up 200 dollars...the turbo woulda killed me.
however I LOVE THIS CAR....It has power everything, sunroof, tint, alloy wheels, 8 speaker sound system, everything.
its a 5 speed, which I STILL dont really know how to drive...but I was practicing tonight.
the advice Minir (I think it was him) gave that one time about being on a hill at getting the clutch engaged so it doesnt move without having the brakes on helped....so does a steep driveway.
however...when I was with my dad I must have stalled it out atleast 15-20 times (going from stop in first) and I layed nice rubber a couple of time (twice in the driveway...while I was practicing with the clutch.
I still love the car...but its a lot of work.
I bought it...and they didnt even detail it last night. Niether me or my dad had the time to pick it up in the morning, so they just ripped off all the acid plastic and seat plastic and took off all the stickers. Its REALLY dirty...but it looks better now that it rained. Thats ok. they gave me an IOU for a full detail and a full tank of gas.
and the flip out key is soooooo cool. anyone able to buy a jetta (or GTI) look into them....even the 4 banger has a lot of power
EDIT: BTW I will get pics after I get it detailed

mine was 19,500 (give or take a couple dollars..Ill get the actual price later...Im too lazy to go get it now)
we put 2500 down and leased it for 4 years. payments are about 262.
I also bought the GLS which is a step up from GL
it goes GL GLS GLX and the sport-inspired GLI...
GL starts at about 17-18 (up to 20 depending on engine) and the GLS starts at 19 (to 22) GLX is rediculously priced somewhere from 22 to 26. the GLI at about 22-24 (I LOVED the platinum grey one I saw...but I couldnt afford it)
GET ONE!!! they handle GREAT. if you can afford it get the 1.8T......the cars soo light that that amount of power is pretty good in it. the VR6 though is awesome (6 spd too)

no Im not paying the insurance yet. Im only paying the difference from what it was on the old car and what it is ont his car (about 200 to 300 diff. a year).
I decided to get a new car because well actually because my parents said to. they told me to get it now while there might be better deals on the 02s.....needless to say that didnt work right because I got an 03. but I think the biggest thing was my parents didnt want to pay for the other car since I was the only one driving it.
I bought the car because Id be paying the payments on the car Im driving now...my parents said either get a new car or by the time school is up youll be paying off the malibu. I figured why not have a new car?
no my parents arent loaded...its just a miracle I could afford this car. (blind luck I guess).....AND they took the malibu. we owed more on it that it was worth (we leased then bought it) and they ate the 1-2k diff. in it too. they just wanted to sell a car.

drivers option allows you to buy at the end of the lease...and theres a couple different mileage options.
the only thing that doesnt come with drivers option is gap insurance which you have to pay extra for...but its worth it.
if you afraid of leases thats the way to go

yes, but if you cant afford the payments of buying it.... then you gotta lease it an just pay it off later.
people always say buying is better than leasing.. well hell ya it is, but if you cant afford to buy it, then leasing is your only option

when I first started driving I drove an '87 Mitsubishi Mighty Max P/U

DEFINATELY frustrating.
BUUUUT. I went out by myself after I felt comfortable...and brought it over to this new school they are building...and got a better sense of the clutch. Even learned how to peel out and chirp out gears. I still need practice on my starts...I do still stall out every once in a while...but I figure Ill get there...and my rough starts I not as rough anymore. GOD I LOVE THIS CAR. the system is GREAT and it sounds like I have two 10s behind me when all I have are stock speakers.. It really is that good

It's a turbo GLI, I guess. And those are 17's (wheels) there. Didn't know the Jetta had a GLI...Anyway, it's not a bare stock car.

Im guessing if its turbo (and you bought it like that) then its the 1.8T GLS
the GLI (yes jetta has a GLI) is a VR6 running 200 horses, a sports suspension and some really nice 17" alloy racing rims with low profile tires along with some other goodies...wanted one but it was 5 grand more.....maybe later

Yeah that's right. The GLI is new for 2003. I've been outta the loop.
Yeah. It's the fully loaded 1.8T with sports suspension, 17" alloy Long Beach wheels and Michelin Pilots. BTW: The 2002 1.8T dynos out to right at 200hp.

Let me see if I can explain how a lease works. At the time of the lease there is a Pre-determined residual value of the automobile. Meaning the value of the vehicle after the lease is up. certian cars that are "fleeted" meaning sold to rental car companies will allways have a lower residual value, because the market is flodded with them. For example lets take a chevy malibu or ford tarus, and lets say the M.S.R.P. is 20,000 after 3 years they say the car is worth 3000 so the payments you make ror the 3 years is the difference between the 20k and the 3k. Now on a car like a honda that are not put into the fleet in great numbers the resuidal is much higher, meaning the value is higher. This is a main reason hondas hold their re-sale value so much better than others, remembet these are just examples. I could give you the actual values but I dont feel like it right now.
Now as for the GAP insurance
Gap insurance is for protecting the difference in what the car is worth vs what you owe. worth meaning ACV to the insurance, and owe meaning payoff. this is saying that if you wreck your car amd the insurance company says it is toatled, and is worth 10k but you owe 15k the GAP insurance will cover the difference. the insurance company could care less what you owe on the car all they are worried about is ACV actual cash value.
