Window (plexiglass)

Post by LT-73 »

Hey guyz, i'm planning on goin to Home Depot to get a piece of plexiglass to mod my pc with, but i can't seem to find the department in which this stuff can be located in. Any ideas on where i should look ?I know it by plexiglass, but i know there are other names for it but i dunno what they are.

Plexiglas is the best known brand of acrylic sheet so they should know what you're looking for.

Look for a local plastics shop. You can probably get a piece cut to size rather than buying more than you need. It's sold by the square foot and cutting is often free if you don't have them polish the edges.

Ratz. That means they won't cut a 14"x 15" piece?

Well i found the hardware store that cuts it to size, but they don't cut the hole for the fan. I went to 3 other places and none of them cut holes in plexiglass. I already got the piece, but no dang hole! How am i supposed to cut it with a hot butter knife??

Plexi and hole....hmmmm. For like 60 bucks or so, you can pop down to Home Depot/Lowes or whatever yer local mega-chain home furnishing store is and procure a Roto-Zip. Seen em in action, and I must say its a nice little piece of work. Just imagine a dremel set up to be a handy-dandy router. The bits cut sideways, like augering a hole with a drill bit, but much more efficient. Then you'll be set-up to mod to yer little heart's content. Even build me a case if your so inclined. :D

Brembo, nice idea, but i just came from Home depot and they don't cut holes in anything. I won't spend $25 for a hole saw much less $60

I'll just face the facts and forget the window. If i wanna see anything inside my pc, i'll just take the side panel off

Dang $20 spent for nuttin :(

I'm gonna go offline for a while and cool off. cya's later

Find a metal can about the size you need and get it searing hot on the stove. Use a oven mitt and burn the hole in it(like a cookie cutter). Prolly stink like no other, but it'll work. Dunno how it'd leave the edges tho.

LT use the fan templates i have on my site, print them and use it to score a mark where you want to cut .

then fire up the old dremel and take your time, i use a 1/4 inch steel grinder attachment, works good.

That's ok, i'm out $20 and my "adding a window fever" is gone. Like i said b4, if i wanna see the inside of my case, i'll just take the panel off, no biggie.

i drill holes in plexi all the time. Glazing is my career u can make a hole any size by doing this:
1)draw your diaMeter with a felt pen
2) drill a 1/8 pilot hole then 1/4 then 3/8 hole which will allow you to instert jigsaw blade.
3) now work that jigsaw like a dog chaseing its tail.

maybe i can give u a qoute on your plexi? i have about 250 sq ft of plexi here

other than those inspired by stupidity

I was going to post a link to that thread, but the SG search results for "bullsh|t" were too numerous

sometimes you have to think outside the box to get inside the box ;).
