Explorer.exe Hogs up the cpu

ok.. i just did a clean install of xp pro like last week. I also install the sp1 as well. One thing though. The explorer hogs up my CPU to 100% when I open the explorer up and close it about 10 times. What could be the source to the problem? and how can i fix it? Any help would greatly appreciated

its not the internet explorer.. its the window explorer.exe that is causing the problems.

i went to that application but i dont see where it says to repair IE.

I believe (haven't tried it) that you can get to the repair by trying an uninstall of IE. It will give you the option of repair, or uninstall.

At least it did in earlier OS's.

As for explorer hogging the CPU, try setting some services you don't use to manual and rebooting.

also .. go in control pannel add/remove program.. then go into theadd/ remove window components.. remove the I.E.. don't be fool by that. When u do that it will ask you if u want to repair ur I.E

.

Ok now my problem.. anyone got an idea how to fix it?

I have a lot of rams and my cpu is 1.7 ghz ... shouldn't that more than enuff ? just wondering

yeah ia gig is all u need acutlly 512 is plenty to tell the turth any more window doesn't utilize it all

If this happens when you open and close explorer 10 times, don't do that

Maybe it's system restore using spare CPU cycles to save the system state. Or file paging.

Do you fold, as in Folding@home etc.
Do you run seti@home?
Anything like that?

Nothing to worry about. if you don't know what it is, then you aren't running it. You would remember installing it.

It is a program that uses free CPU cycles to 'fold' proteins.
To complicated for me to understand.
