Most time consuming game you've experienced?

Post by koldchillah »

REMEMBER, the game that stole the most time from your life over the years. NOT NECESSARILY YOUR CURRENT FAVORITE!

This is a classic question thats probably been answered a thousand times, but even so, I've never ventured into the "gaming" section of SG to know. Just curious to see what games really devoured the most of our spare time.

For me, I'd have to say the Elder Scrolls series consumed me the most. I played Arena back in High School, Daggerfall freshman year of college, & Morrowind I've been playing since it was released but I've been on about a month break right now. Those three games combined have totally destroyed hours, and hours of my spare time over the years. So have Civ & Doom, but not quite as much.

Even though I probably logged more hours into UT, Quake1/2/3 was what addicted me....and kept me playing into the wee hours of the morning so many times.

My ex-wife hated that!

the Diablo series has been the biggie for me.

i think it was Jan. 96 that I started playing diablo. and still play D2, rarely now however. since then I have been sucked into the Baldurs Gate games, Civ3, UT, and Roller Coaster Tycoon. Those are probably my all time addictions...feels like I am missing one though...

Agreed, even though it was not my favorite game, it was the most addicting game I ever played.

yeah,, I suppose I should have included Everquest in the poll.. just couldn't think of them all at the time. I played Everquest too... for some reason I didn't get into as much. There are certain games that I just can't get into. Tribes, Baldur's Gate series, and Neverwinter Nights are among the other great games that I just can't get addicted too.. weird.

everquest is so powerful and addicitng, that people have died from an inderect result. Give you a perfect example:

A father not sure where, was watching his baby at the time, he was so addicted to EQ, I think he played EQ for 48 hours straight, never once getting up from the PC and checking up on his baby. His baby eventually ended up dieing I think from starvation.

DOH!!

Final Fantasy!! I forgot all about it... how could I?

I played the hell out of the original and my favorite all time is FFII for superNES. I played III but didn't really get into it that much..

VII I finally played about a year ago, but only got about half way through it and reformatted my hard drive and never put it back on again. I've never played any of the more recent ones.. kinda afraid of the amounts of time it may consume... I'll stick with Morrowind for now... but I should have had Final Fantasy on there for sure... MY BAD!

I've heard of things like that before with EQ....what is so powerful and addicting about it though? I've never played it but just curious how a game can get people so crazed

The Legend of Zelda.

Looking back now, that game is very short, but I spent weeks and weeks playing that thing. I'd get off the bus from school, run into my room and be holed up in there until my mom had to drag me to dinner. Ahh...4th grade.

Most of the time-consuming games I've played have been on consoles. Dragon Warrior series, Final Fantasy series, the other Zeldas.

Legend of Zelda is still a classic, proabbly one of the only adventure games that I might have beaten 20 times. Had great replay value

It is really hard to describe, it is just you always want something better, whether it be another level, or the next uber loot.

Risk was great, I play Risk II all the time at work (the old "ALT-TAB" when the boss comes around trick!)

I can't believe nobody out there got civ'd out at some point in their lives! No love for Sid Meir's Civilization series? It's definitely a time consuming game, but I suppose you have to be into turn-based strategy games to appreciate it fully..

No Maxis games? SimCity, 2000, 3000, The Sims, Sim Tower, had a love affair with all of them at some point.

I've spent many, many hours on the Zelda series. The last one that I played and never finished was Final Fantasy VII for the play station. Just don't have the time anymore to sit and play for hours on end. As mentioned, there would be times that I would sit and play all weekend, right up untill I had to go to work on Monday.

Ultima online baby. I've probably built around 15 characters with about 130+ hours MINIMUM into just building them, then tons of time making money by killing stuff on my warriors, tamers, bards, mages, crafting stuff on my crafters, then tons of time socializing, hunting for fun, then my all time favorite Player versus Player (pvp)...so awesome.

its in my opinion more fun then EQ, more stuff to do, more people to interact with in different ways, MUCH better pvp, youve never known an online game unless youve known the rush of absolutely beating the **** out of your openent(s).

i love all aspects of Ultima Online, from being a smith, tailor, miner, alchemist, tinker, pure mage, macer, fencer, swordsman, hybrid mage/fencer, parry macer, tamer/mage, bard/mage...umm...the only thing I havent really played is a jacker (lumberjack) I love to pvp, run vendors, particpate in senairos, guild wars, factions, Chaos and Order wars, Player killing, playing a red, a blue, a trammy, a newbie, EVERYTHING hehehe. Collecting rares, owning houses, decorating my houses, having tons of fun with my guildmates, doing Adam Ant quests, participating in Adam Ant quests, getting together with a bunch of red freinds and going and killing annoying trammys who think they are good at pvp (player versus player) dueling, tournaments, the ability to just kill someone and take all their stuff because you dont like them, killing a dragon, owning a dragon and having it kill stuff/people, DESTROYING YOUR ENEMIES hehe, going to guildmeetings, guild hunts, many many guild events (scavenger hunts, chicken fights, tournaments, monster/dungeon hunts, auctions). Weddings, getting married to my irl girlfreind in game...everything!

whoa i sound like an addict, too bad I cant play at all becuase for some reason I am so laggy that I cant move even though I ping under 100 with 0 packetloss and i download/browse very fast, the game has been unplayable to me for about 3+ weeks.

Lythandesi/Moridin/BrianBoitano of Napa Valley/Chesapeake shards of Ultima Online

PS this is spread out over a course of 2-3 years of playing on and off, so ive experienced a over a long period of time, most often playing an hour or so a day.
