What is your max steady dl rate?

Post by CAT5 »

I just wonder what is your steady max dl rate when dlding files. I always max out at around 190KB/sec and it won't let me dl any faster than that. I got ATT service and on the west coast.

I max at around 240KB/sec. That's when the traffic is light.

Otherwise I'm happy with 160-180KB/sec.

When I download from my local Adelphia server, I get 2.8 to a full 3 megs. I have been MOST impressed with Adelphia, despite their financial situation.

Dahm...when do I or the rest of us ever gona be able to dl at 2 - 3 megs/s. With the amount we pay every month for cable our limit it's just plain sucks! I was much happier when it was still Excite cuz I was doing like 450 - 500 KB.

I am pretty consistent at 179 KB/sec. For 1500/128 cap from Concast I consider myself lucky.

That file size is way too small. All you got was a speed burst, not an average of your speeds. :rolleyes: :rotfl:

I get 3.3 meg d/l at peak, and it jumps around when busy. Most of the time, it is still 1.5 meg though.

Mohan-san: I Know that but it looks good . One thing about cable is it can be all over the place it not a hard cap like dsl.With DSL if your cap at 1500 down you can't go over that, with cable you can. I do stay over my cap 98% of the time. I have a very good ISP, I run a nexland pro8oo turbo router with 2 ip and they just put a new cable from the road to my house that is 3 times bigger than normal.You can do alot with the right stuff,LOL

Why do you think I can't get over cap?I have ran hundreds of speed test on every speed test out there. I think I should know what it is doing.I have friends on my street on the same cable I have ,I have run the same speed test on there computers, they can't get over the cap either.We all have the same modem , but they run linksys and netgear router.I run the nexland turbo with 2 ip's other than that every thing is the same.

Very unreliable speed tests or busy traffic.

if hes on a docsis modem, it has this option in the cfg file called maxburstdownload or sometin like dat i dont remeber exactly, anyway it means that the modem can go over the cap up to what the max burst is set to... so the speeds can be a little higher... if he's on a older modem thats harder to throttle down the isp's mite've not throttled it if the speeds were higher when he got the modem... or his cmts mite not be configured properly... wheter its misconfigured or its just configured so it can go over it... i dunno
anyway its prossible... the best way to check is to download from a site that has plenty of bandwidth, is only a few hops away and the latency to it is low... and just use DU Meter or a different bandwidth meter that shows you the exact speed

I use comcast(I have a 1500/128 connection) and tweaked my cable connection settings to the utmost, thx. to mnosteele52 :) . I get a steady 200 kb/s on download now and once I even got a steady 16.5 kb/s on upload! I noticed these improvements only after using cablenut though. Before, I would be lucky to reach 190 kb/s on d/l and 15 kb/s on upload.

click on the link. that is my almost steady download speed. it usually goes to 600 kBps and then levels off and stays between 200 and 400. this happened just after the tweaks i am very stisfied with them. i used to get 900 kbps but now my highest was 4700 kbps. to any of you guys not getting good speeds just try the install tweaks. if your comp screws up boot to ms dos and press scanreg/restore and pick a date prior to the one that you installed the tweaks on. BTW i got cable and i go over my caps all the time. i got a 3000 cap and like i said i tested my speed three times in one day and got over 3000 each time. just try the tweaks guys...dont be scared to experiment just make sure u back up ur registry or restore it if something messes up c ya

ALSO thanks to Nevermind65 who i emailed and he tried to help me with my speed problem and suggested the tweaks and i did and now all i got to say is Thanks man. c ya guys

Cool. I ran a steady 250-260Kb/sec.

Ran a test to Megapath (Calif) and got 300-310Kb/sec.

I'm capped at 3000/128 so although it's running good I see more room to tweek. Thanks for the link. :D

I use Cablenut only. For Win 2000 or XP try these settings in Cablenut (many thanks to mnosteele52 for all his hard work):

DefaultReceiveWindow = 384000
DefaultSendWindow = 38400
DisableAddressSharing = 1
InitialLargeBufferCount = 100
InitialMediumBufferCount = 240
InitialSmallBufferCount = 320
LargeBufferSize = 81920
MaxFastTransmit = 64000
MediumBufferSize = 15040
PriorityBoost = 0
SmallBufferSize = 1280
TransmitWorker = 32
FastSendDatagramThreshold = 4096
EnableFastRouteLookup = 1
EnablePMTUDiscovery = 1
IgnorePushBitOnReceives = 0
GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize = *Your current RWIN Value*
MaxFreeTcbs = 8000
MaxHashTableSize = 16384
MaxNormLookupMemory = 5000000
SackOpts = 1
SynAttackProtect = 1
Tcp1323Opts = *0 if using an RWIN Value below 65535 and 1 for a value above 65535*
TcpLogLevel = 1
TcpMaxDupAcks = 2
TcpMaxHalfOpen = 100
TcpMaxHalfOpenRetried = 80
TcpRecvSegmentSize = 1460
TcpSendSegmentSize = 1460
TcpTimedWaitDelay = 30
TcpUseRFC1122UrgentPointer = 0
TcpWindowSize = *Your current RWIN Value*
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server = 40
MaxConnectionsPerServer = 20
DefaultTTL = 64
DisableUserTOSSetting = 0
TcpMaxDataRetransmissions = 6
DefaultTOSValue = 92

Also add the following entry to your registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic
es\AFD\Parameters

Add the parameter BufferMultiplier and give it a value of 400 hexidecimal which will make it 1024.

RWIN Values you could try:

37960, 51100, 56940, 74460, 93440, 112420, 150380, 262800 or 601520.

All are based on your Cox cap of 3000 but with different Latencey variables.
