P4 cooling

Post by skyman »

I have aP4b533 mobo,2.0 cpu,Ocing to 2.6,with good case cooling.Temp on cpu after OCing only went up @ 10 degrees and system seem's to be fine.Need advice on best/good cooling system for P4.Also,is there a place @ here to buy good cooling,i don't like credit card usage on web!!!!!!!!

Thank's in advance for any help :)

As far as heatsinks go, you could go with the two widely-used solutions, the Alpha PAL8942 or the Swiftech MCX4000. Couple either one of those with a *relatively* quiet yet good CFM fan like a Panaflo H1A or such on it and cool away. I use an Alpha 8942 with a Thermaltake 8025A 80mm fan and get great, non-noisy cooling.

I think you said it exactly... the temps only went up 10 degrees. I have a 1.8a myself and have noticed that temps are not really an issue when overclocking, voltage is. If you are looking for higher speeds, look no further then increasing your cpu's voltage. I forgot the site that carries it, but it shouldnt be too hard to find.

I should have said more...

there is a tweak that involves tying the pins of your cpu together, which will allow you to raise your voltage even higher then normal. Be careful.

The Swiftech and Alpha are great coolers to go with. If you really want to crank up the speed(3 ghz+) you need to go to a water cooling solution. Here is a basic article on H2O cooling. The best cooling for the insane overclocker is a Vaporchill system. So air cooling with a good heatsink is fine for moderate overclocking, Water is better and a Vaporchill is best. That is unless your completely a OC lunatic, then only Liquid nitrogen will make you happy. :D

I bought the thermaltake volcano 7+ localy, had no probelm's putting it on cpu,but temp really went up,well past what stock fan/sink was at,took it off, checked it out ,put back on,still run's hotter than stock.Right now,my cpu temp is 40 cel,107 f.With the thermaltake,i would be @ 125 f.Any idea's why this is happening, this should be a better combo, from the look's of it,so i would like to use it?

climbing on folding chart :)

Thank's in advance to all who respond!!!!!

What fan are you using? Did you use thermal paste? Check to be sure the fan is blowing the right direction.

Also, what is a good temp to be running at?I am at 104 degress now, while folding, which i understand will use a lot of processor and cause a temp increase.

104 degrees Farenheit = 40 degress Celsius. That's a GREAT temp to have under load, especially during Folding. Don't sweat it.

Also, which speed are you running the Volcano 7+ fan at? If it's the low setting, the temps will be fairly hotter than the stock Intel heatsink. Only the medium and high settings will get you really good cooling. Of course, your case's air flow and proper application of thermal grease are important factors as well.
