I went to the store the other day and listened to the Kliscph, Altecs, and Labtecs at the same time.
The Klispch were a little louder, but the Altec 641's had a much better sound quality.
I was very disappointed in the Klipsch after hearing so many people rant about them, lots of bass, but it sounded muddy to me, also it has a mid/tweeter combo which leaves a little to be desired.
The Altec's had a true three-way combo, tweeter, midrange and woofer. I also liked the control much better. Not a surround setup, but if you are looking for sound quality I think the Altec's offer much more.
Of course what you like in a speaker is very subjective,
ford/chevy
amd/intel
Klipsch/Altec
..and the list goes on.

Well think about it..youre listening to it in a store where 10 million morons have messed with them ruining the entire sound quality of all those speakers...ive heard em all and the klipsch has a more vibrant sound and better highs and lows all around..especially with the two 6 1/2's subs in the box. such a sweet system. remember you pay for what u get

That's why I said that sound is very subjective. The speakers were all connected to the same source, and even though the speakers have been through hell, I thought the Klipsch didn't have near the sound quailty of the Altec 641's.
The Klipsch don't even have a tweeter, and it's the same with Bose. That's why I never cared for them either, they allways sounded flat. I think it's all just market hype. More does not always equal better.
I have some home speakers that I'm almost finished with right now. Three way with one inch tweeters, four inch mids, twelve inch woofers and custom built 12db crossovers, with zoble impedance matching networks. I have just a little more fine tuning with the ports and damping material and they are good to go.
I would bet you these speakers sound just as good as just about any speaker on the market.
But truth of the matter is, all that all that really matters is what sounds good to you.

Maybe that's why they sounded like crap. I pulled the covers off of all four of the satellites and not one of them had a tweeter in them. I even made a comment to a friend of mine who was with me about the sound and he agreed that they sounded like junk.
When you took the cover off you could see right into the speaker case. I just went and looked at Klipsch's site and could see the tweeters. I need to find another place that has them on display, the main reason I listened to them is that I'm looking for some new PC speakers.

RoundEye, check out Boston Acoustics also..
Docsta, I would agree with you that Klipsch is a top notch speaker, but it's still subjective. A lot depends on the acoustics of your listening enviroment.
What sounds good to others may sound bottom heavy or to shrill for the rest of the folk that listen to them.
Klipsch are VERY good for DVD or rap since they ARE bottom heavy. Granted you can adjust that.
For me, I do most of my listening on the home stereo and even 5.1 Klipsch can't touch it. But......I also realize that you just don't plunk down a bunch of money for a home stereo and plop it into your bedroom or dorm room. Movies don't get played on my home computer...they get spun on the home unit with a bigger tv and more amp/speaker...
Those Altecs RoundEye linked to have great sound IMHO..

The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

Docsta, will Best Buy let me take a picture inside of the store? I think you work there, so I'm wondering if you would know.
Because I'm willing to put money on the fact that those speakers did not have any tweeters in them.
I'm not try to flame anyone, I just don't want you to think I'm nuts.
I know I'm going to sound like an old fart saying this, but I built my first set of home speakers when you were around two years old. I've been doing this for a long time now.

Re: Speaking of speakers........
but 1 thing about this set of speakers is that it has kinda low RMS, but for that price, it's pretty good for a set of Altec LansingOriginally posted by russell12
