mnosteele52...I need your help , Please...I have been learning from you and trying the settings you post but I am getting lost with these new settings. Could you give me a good base to start with using the new XP tweak. I have ADSL/PPPoE, 1500/256 , XP Home...I see that most of the settings are for Cable or DSL with an MTU of 1500 but I have 1492....If I left something out just let me know...Thanks for your time..

You need to quit relying on those online tests for one do real download test and do you have system restore on or and other speed programs installed:

In IE, go to Tools, internet options, connection tab at top, LAN settings at bottom, nothing should be checked in this box, NOTHING, No auto detect, no proxy, no automatic configuration script, NOTHING, REBOOT

Nothing is checked, and I rebooted. Things looking good, but maybe I should get some specific settings for my caps? I heard someone say ROGERS@HOME is now capped at 1500/192

I was thinking about DSL, but sympatico has a 5G/Month Limit, maybe I'll shop around, I dunno cuz I'm just gonna use it for another year or so then I'll be off somewhere else for university

I just use it for gaming mostly.

I remember someone was telling be about AEI (piranah I think) I called them and they told me I had to buy their aDSL modem, for like $150 CND ... so I was like... pfft

forget that! So I'm still here with Rogers hoping that if I smash the modem with a hammer a few times, It might go faster

Below are the parameters everyone is getting confused about, these parameters are for 2K & XP ONLY and the entire AFD key is not in your registry by default. The definitions below are from the Microsoft 2000 White Papers. Don't make it any more difficult than it must be do find the proper value for your particular connection for these parameters. Cablenut will not install the parameter BufferMultiplier so it must be added manually and given a value of 1024 which is 400 hexidecimal. To configure your DefaultRecvWindow & DefaultSendWindow just take your ISPs caps in kilobytes and multiply them by 1024 - it's that easy. To find the proper value for your GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize & TcpWindowSize just ping about 10 of your favorite sites and use the calculator here, it makes it very easy. From mnosteele, I don't do it this way

hehe thanks steele. i do have another question tho. looking at what others posted i noticed my InitialLargeBufferCount (and medium/small) were low. large is 50, med 100, small 150. also my large buffer size is 40960, medium is 15040, and small is 256. is this correct? if not what should they be? and do i leave GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize and TcpWindowSize at 51100? thanks for help

I suggest using the following for the buffers:

InitialLargeBufferCount = 1000
InitialMediumBufferCount = 3000
InitialSmallBufferCount = 5000
LargeBufferSize = 409600
MaxFastTransmit = 64 not a buffer but the proper value
MediumBufferSize = 150400
SmallBufferSize = 6400

And yes leave your GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize & TcpWindowSize at 51100.

Great job mnosteele. After reading the MS Wndows 2000/XP White Pages many times I had always wondered why the BufferMultiplier had a default of 512. It never dawned on me that the default values for DefaultReceive and Send windows were not multipules of MSS.

I test both the new and old settings and found that while my download speeds were the same (375-385 kbytes) my upload speeds did increase from 272 to 289 kbits. Montoring my speeds with NetStat Live they were much more stable with the new settings verses the old ones. Haven't done any ping testing to see if they have stablized but will when I find the time.

I do have one question though. Should Small, Medium and LargeBufferSize also be a multipule of 1024?

, that's exactly what Dannjr said about what the values do - stabilize your speed, they may increase it but mainly it stabilizes it. As for the AFD buffers they can be whatever value you like, they are just the amount of RAM you assign to use for the buffers.
