Newsgourp decoding question
So I d/l a file and my reader didn't decode them. Happens pretty often, the client I use can't decode some formats, usually if I use another reader (Gravity) it fixes everything but that isnt an option right now.
So is thre any way to decode the text files that are already on my computer?

you should be able to click on the file and OE will open it up. I beleive the file extention is a .eml right? If byu clicking on it does not open it up right clack and open with OE
(if your useing win98 you'll need to hold down SHIFT and right click then choose open with.)

Well, if you were smart...(just kidding kdog)
Most newsgroup users encode files into what is known as yEnc, what you need to do is search your favorite downloads site (http://www.download.com for me) for a yEnc decoder..and bam, works like magic

Xnews newsreader...it's what I use...it's a little rough around the edges, but does a great job...

Thanks for all the replies guys.
I don't think this is a Yenc problem. According to the official Ynec site ( http://www.yenc.org/ ) my decoder has Yenc support and I have no problem decoding Yenc files.
The files that I mainly have trouble with are small image files.
EA- THe undecoded files are .txt inside its just a bunch of jargon.
I tried EA's advice and opened them in IE (IE= OE?) and got the same thing that I did in the text file, jargon. Tried it in two image programs (WinXP browser and IrfanView) to no avail.
Thanks for the Xnews link Indy, it seems like a really nice program.

maybe the files your getting aren't fully uploaded yet?
OE = Outlook Express
I use OE as my newsreader, it's easy to use and works for me, with yProxy it can do yEnc and other stuff OE can't do natively, and it breaks the 256 combining limit....
I hear gravity is reall good though, just don't wanna take the time to learn somethig new right now

if you wanted you could send me the file or the newsgroup address and i can try it from my end? up to you, good luck...

Are these BinHex posts? Alot of AppleHeads use that encoding and thats when you see it You can open those files in winzip or stuffit http://www.stuffit.com/expander/
She's presenting like a mandrill!
Downhill always suggested to get Gravity and I tried it a couple times but it was just different enough from OE that I didn't want to switch. Well one day I sat down and geared towards learning it. Well Gravity is all I use now...Originally posted by Brent

Gravity catches all the broken files.. OE allows ya to D/L and after a hour goes by and try to open the fricking file it turns out to be corrupt...arhg... if there's a file missing gravity rejects the d/l

Indy, I just downloaded that Xnews... wow it seems really badass so far.. Thanks for the link
