Dear Lobo...please help

Post by Contact »

Dear Lobo,

I just can't seem to be getting it right. I would really appreciate if you could help out at all.

I am running a P III 450 with 192Mbs/ram on Windows ME. I have a cable modem and the cable company advertises 1500/128.

Having dowloaded TCPOptimizer (Thank you all out there) I just cannot get tweaks right. I know I am capable of more, having tested in the past, but also compared with other local users. I was hoping to get my connection moving at it extreme... all in consideration.

Post by Contact »

Firstly,

thank you very much, it all seems the same. Maybe I am doing this wrong.

Also I know this is not the correct thread to get in touch over this. Could you give any other thread you might prefer, and what is the possibility of direct chat or something.

Thank you very much for your help previous as well

I can't direct chat or anything like that, have you merged anything into your registry or taken anything out, do you have a backup copy :)

Contact try RWINs 17520/23360/27740/36500/55480/93440. What kind of download speeds are you getting now, it is important to post what speeds you are getting with what settings so we know if it's getting better or worse. :) ;)

For CABLE MODEM only, NOT DSL

RIGHT click the connection icon on desktop (Properties or Connections) and selecting Properties.
If this is an ethernet connection, and if your cable modem's ethernet interface is not specifically listed as capable of full-duplex working (see list), click the button Configure below the adapter name.
Click the tab Advanced to bring it to the front:
In the Property box, the property name to be selected varies according to model of ethernet card. Examples are: Network Link Selection, Media Type, Connection Type, Duplex Mode, or any similarly-named property which can have Values looking like Auto-Negotiation, or 10BT, or 10BaseT.
In the Value box, select a value which either (a) explicitly says half-duplex or semi-duplex, or (b) at least does not say full-duplex [e.g. 10BaseT on its own is OK]. If there is a choice between 10 and 100 with half-duplex, choose the 10. Do not choose 10Base5, 10Base2, or AUI.
Click OK to exit the Adapter settings.
Click OK to exit the Connection properties.
Close the Network and Dial-up Connections window.

Thank you both,

I will get onto it right after I give you the following informaiton:

I initially altered the settings directly before installing TCPOptimizer, realizing you have install the initial settings I clicked on windows default booted the pc and then went back into the registry to delete all alterations I had initially made.

I am eager to get better downoading speeds as I remember faster.

With different TCP Receive settings tested, considering I download a 64mb file from ftp1.optonline.net and wait till the downoad is 50% complete: I get 184 KB/s.

The cable company claim 1500/128

Again thank you both.

Ditto, it's the same as 1472kb/s so stick with whatever RWIN you got that result with. :)

The help subject

Post by Contact »

On most of the RWIN settings. What do you think the best capability I should be getting is.

I changed as per your instructions: You find the setting in control panel> My networking places> Properties... I presume that is what you meant. Haven't got the connection icon on my desktop

The setting was set to Auto Mode and changed it to 10/Half Mode.

Anything would help

Ok... I know have some sort of benchmark to take from.

Again thank you both for the help, is there any other possibility of going beyond that, like extreme?

Sorry for being greedy

Extreme would just change RWIN to 513920 which I think would be alittle big for you but try it, change it back if it does not work :)

LOLROF

I am going to try it... for sure. Through all this I did not ask important questions about TCPOptimizer :

What does "modify all network adapters" in TCPOptimizer do and is it a one off or can you keep it enabled?

When can I use the Extreme mode in the same program

I was wondering if this applied to 184 download of a 64mb file...ie 1472kb/s

Lodo wrote: "If you have a 56K modem installed, well I would leave it as is and yes try extreme apply changes reboot"

The other question was about "modify all network adapters" or not modify

Thank you... ;)
