Perplexing Problem
We recently switched over from DSL to Cable and have 4 computers linked on netgear. So far so good except that for some strange reason every evening between 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM the internet connection cuts off only on my computer. I still see the other computers and they still have internet access. I can't find anything in my automatic schedules that would interfere. Note- I don't know if it is a factor, but my computer is the only one with Windows ME, the others are windows 98. Thank you for any input or suggestions you hve to offer.

If you release/renew your NIC's IP, does it come back quickly?
I don't like the DHCP service of home routers, I prefer giving them static IP, Gateway, and DNS....much more reliable. See if you can try that, perhaps you have a DHCP issue on the ME box....giving up it's lease too quickly.

If I renew/release the NIC's IP, it does come back quickly ( during the day, when the computer is seeing the internet..this is between early am to about 8 pm). When it is not seeing the net, trying renew/release does nothing.
To be more specific about my network configuration, we have five computers using netgear phoneline networking cards (PA301), a phoneline-ethernet bridge box ( PA103) connecting this network to Netgear Cable/DSL router (RP114). The network works fine as far as all computers seeing each other. It is just the one computer (running WindowsME) that loses its connectivity to the router and internet at night, in spite of other network computers still on the net. When that happens, even bringing down and rebooting router and the entire network will not get the computer back on line.
I notice on my IP Configuration, the problem computer setup has the following : "NetBios Resolution uses DNS". Is that a problem?
Thanks!

perplexing problem fixed
We finally isolated the problem to the phone line. We think that there was a minor short that must have been been running close to an electrical line that supplied some outdoor lights that were on a timer. We think the heat created the short which is why it was happining at the same time every night. We ran a new phone line and no problem.
