How to whistle?

Hello,

This may sound quite odd, but can someone explain how to whistle loudly? I don't mean just using pursed lips but the really loud type that Coaches seem to do with their fingers.

My girlfriend says to put your fingers in and use your tongue but her explanation is somewhat lacking..

tell her to put her tongue on your tongue to show u where to put it...

or her finger on yer tongue.. and so on and so forth... I'm loney

ok, the way i do it.

1) i put my thumb and middle finger tips close to each other (maybe less than an inch but more than 1/2 inch, play with it).
2) place these two fingers against my lips so if i blow, air has to escape through this gap.
3) then using my tounge, placing it against my two fingertips (feel the nail ends).
4) then i blow air. as i blow i draw my tounge back and slightly down, flattening it out, pursing my lips forcing my fingertips forwards and backwards changes tone, and it whistles LOUD!

play with it, once you get a whistle, just keep repeating how you did it. it will come.

one more note. if you can whistle just by pursing your lips the amount of air your used to using is very little.
the way i described it above, well it uses a whole lot of air, i empty my lungs very quickly that way

Not all people can do the fingers in the mouth whistle. It all depends on the shape of your mouth and how your teeth fit into the picture......

When I was a kid, we made our whistles out of that half inch banding with holes in it. You take a piece of banding. You need a piece at least three holes wide....

You bend it in the middle and leave a slight curve in both sides...then clean it. Put it in your mouth with the back side of your tounge up against the banding and blow hard.......

I was taught to make a void between your teeth and lip. You direct the air flow into the void to make the sound. The rest is self taught. I could call one of my boys at a full city block away

i cant wistle for the life of me..so i always carry one on my keycahin(not joking) plus i can use any bottle cap..acorn caps are the best..killer with those

Its kind of hard to explain how to do it in writing...U need to see someone doing it and try to Mimic it. I used to use my fingers but then I learned how to do it with my teeth and lips just as loud without fingers. Its even more shriller.
