Cox buyout of Adelphia?

Post by jumpingrat »

I have heard that Cox will be buying Adelphia's cable service in the L.A. area. Does anyone out there have Cox as their provider? If so, how is the service?

I've had a Cox connection for 4 years and really have no complaints. When @home folded and Cox switched to their own network there were a few problems but they have been worked out. Speeds stayed the same (3000/300) as well as the monthly cost while most other providers cut their speeds in half and raised prices.

Thanks for the input. Adelphia is currently capped at 3000/128, although I have never seen speeds down faster than 2000 or so. If Cox keeps the current speeds and prices (42$/mo.) I will be content.

Here in Rhode Island the cost is $35 a month without Modem rental. I have my system tweaked to the max and get very consistant speeds at or above my 3000 download cap.

Latency can sometimes be a problem but for me it's normally outside the Cox network and since I'm not a gamer it really doesn't affect me.

I have tweeked as far as I can, and I'm left with the opinion that Adelphia has oversold their bandwidth. A lot of good that did them, they are still bankrupt.
Oh ya, sorry to be a pest, but do you know if Cox offers an upgraded package ($$ for bandwidth)? Adelphia does not in my area, from what they told me. Thanx

They only offer their standard internet service for home users.

They do have Business services up to 10mbps but I don't know the cost. Check out their web page here and look under "For Your Business": https://www.cox.com/offers/NewCustomer/Visitor.asp

Thanks for the link! BTW I work for a regional wireless provider

and I heard today that Adelphia won't be able to pay their

franchise fees this Mo. That's the one ya gotta pay. So hopefully

the transition to Cox will go as (relatively) smoothly as your's was.

i've heard rumors about cox buying adelphia but i haven't seen anything solid yet. jim robbins was interviewed about possible mergers and he said something to the effect that cox doesn't have any current merger plans but if a good opportunity presents itself it won't be passed up. i guess we'll just have to wait and see but transitioning 3 million cable subs over will be a pain in the rear.

Whatever they do I hope it happens soon. My service has gone from good to bad to s**t. Just the fact that I can get online right now is a rarity! :(
