Windows 98 can only be installed on primary?

Post by TEH WIN »

I was just messing around with partition magic and i clicked create new partition. it asked me if i wanted to install an OS on it. i said yes. i selected windows 98 and it said something like i can only install it on a primary partition.

is this true that windows 98 cant be put on a logical part of the hard drive?

You can only install 98 on a primary partition! However with partition magic you can set up to 4 primary partitions.

Wrong:
I had NT server on my primary disk, and WIN98 on the secondary partition, dual boot, and they worked fine.

All you have to do is hide the other primary partition and use boot magic. The nice thing about setting it up that way is you will never see the other OS's files. In other words you will hae two c:\ drives.
