I found a site and figured it out
here , type cg_drawFPS 1
With FPS in caps- now it works, my only question now is how do I display over 99 fps. I have a new vid card so I know I'm hitting higher then that.

bump up your maxfps...(default is at 85, i'm pretty sure)
/com_maxfps xxx
