KaZaA Speed Tweak

Post by BigAmp »

OK I have got this one going on KaZaA Lite so it should work on KaZaA and other like it.

use Regedit and go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Kazaa\Transfer

make a DWORD Value named DownloadBandwidth set the value to the same Decimal or Hex value as you set your TcpWindowSize, that has worked realy well for me so far but I need more poeple to test it out!

so pl;ease give it a try and till me how it works

I all most forgot, you can do this tweak when you have KaZaA running to make it easy to find numbers that work. trust me you will see when you have a bad one!

You're hallucinating.. There is no way to tweak your transfer speeds w/ KaZaA. It all depends on how fast the upload is of the user whom you're downloading stuff from... which is usually SLOW!

it lets you get more out of your end of the connection, by telling the program your speed and not having it do that it self.

Dword Values

Post by SICMF »

with kazaa go to start run regedit hunt down HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Systems\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters in the right screen you see the TcpWindowSize Key (probally at 7FFF Hex) after that go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Kazaa\Transfer and in the right screen right click and add dword name it DownloadBandwidth then Right click that value and modify set it to the TcpWindowSize you found out.

tried the tweak last night... are you sure it works on the fly? i put the tweak in and the download speed didn't change much... at leat not enough to notice. however, when people are uploading from me, they are getting a larger burst rate...

my upload is at 128kbs, so roughly 16KB... when people use to connect, they would connect at around 30KB and drop to 16. now they connect at around 50-60KB and then slowly drop down to 16KB.

that's about all i notice... my imagination???

if you want to see just how much it will mess with your speed try a realy low number like 100 and you speed will take a drive, besides that if you have a good number then you will see that your speed will stay more level over the download time. you can all so limit your download speed make it about 10% of you upload. so between 10 Kbps and 13 Kbps for you and get the setting that says "optimal bandwidth use when computer is idle" is NOT on (unchick it!). that just lets as many upload as your computer can take start when you level it to download. this is not good for your speed or the people who are downloading from you. you may all so want to limit the number of uploads to 1 or 2, I do this to give the people downloading from me the best speed they can get from me.

bigamp

i'll try a few different ranges tonight and see what happens...

as for uploads, yeah i di the same. i upload at time since i can only upload at 128kbs... what i hate is the download end. most people connect at over 500kbs, that's 50Kbs+, yet all i ever tend to get is 5-10Kbs, with an ocassional 30Kbs in there. is that the norm?

thats about what I got before too, but I sime to find the 25Kb+ and even 50Kb+ a lot more now, if I'm up between about 1:30 am to 2:30 am (E.S.T.) and I get thing started to download then I can get two movie down by morning, that would be about 1.7 G of movie :)

i'll do it again tonight... i'm on the east coast too, so well see what i get in the wee hours of the night.

i've also noticed that people sharing software tend to have higher speeds the those with movie files... i was hitting 60Kb+... to bad all my down loads can't be like that...

let you know tomorrow...

It appears that I'm not the only one who got that Kazaa virus. I ditched Kazaa Lite because of it, too! Well, anyway, I downloaded a half-life downloader, and I was thinking "WTF? Half-Life for free?" And then I downloaded it. The thing basically ****** up my computer and in the end, my drive C went from 6.64GB of free space to an all time low of 4.86GB. WOW. Anyway, I'll give feedback on this soon as possible.

I suggest you all use Kazaa Lite. A billion times better than Kazaa regular.

http://www.kazaalite.com

Make sure you unistall Kazaa first.

gamedude2002, you are on a dial up connection. Your maximum download is 56kbps... which means you cannot go above your limit, ESPECIALLY with 56k. The reason you don't see a difference is because there is no way to tweak Kazaa... it's a P2P program.. file sharing.. which means you can have a super fast connection, while the person you're downloading from has 56k.. You will download at extremely slow 1.2Kbytes. These types of programs are ones you can't really tweak. You just have to find a user with a high bandwidth, and just hope he doesn't have a whole bunch of other users downloading from him at the same time you are.

Sorry BigAmp, but I don't think this tweak works.
