I have a question brent?

Post by Kastel86 »

Ive been seeing your reviews at http://www.hardocp.com and ive been looking at the ATI reviews and instead of comparing the 8500 64 you compare the radeon 8500le 128mbwith other cards not the 8500 64mb? Why is that? Isnt the 8500 faster than the 8500le 128mb even if it is clocked at 275/275?

why would a regular 8500 with 64MB of ram be faster then an 8500le clocked at the exact same speeds with 128MB of ram?

an 8500LE clocked at 275/275 is the same speed as a regular 8500 clocked at 275/275

the onlly differerence with the 8500LE is that it's a DOWNCLOCKED Radeon 8500, it's the same GPU still, just clocked lower

so if i clock it back up to 275/275 it's the same thing as it was before

make any sense?

what if you clock the radeon 8500le to 300/300 and the radeon 8500 to 300/300 would the radeon 8500 be faster since it came retail at 275/275?

no

300/300 = 300/300

it's the same speed, how could it be faster if it's the same speed lol

Here's the thing, if you get a Made by ATI Radeon 8500LE 128MB you will be able to at LEAST overclock it to regular retail speeds of 275/275 that is a for sure. However, most can overclock to 300/300, some can't but most can... it's really trial and error after 275/275

that's what makes the 850LE 128MB such a great deal

Yes, you made a bad decision returning your 8500LE 128MB in favor for the 8500 64MB

sok, he COULD have had a 'powered by ati' LE, lol...those crappy chinese ones that run at like 230/200 and stuff..and use like 6ns memory..etc.. and can't OC worth crap.. lol i was volt moddin mine a lil while ago brent, and made a slight booboo (too much lead) and checked voltage..so glad i had the multimeter out..i had the memory at like 6.5 volts..i YANKED the power cord out of the computer lol..SO close to fryin my card.

well then if the 128 8500le is clocked at 275/275 like the radeon 8500 128mb and the 8500 128 gets better scores and it has the same GPU and same clock speed but it still gets better scores???

It's true. A retail performs better than an LE even at the same speeds. Test it out yourself.

The retail has better RAM and better components. Even if the RAM is clocked at the same speed, we know that quality of the RAM architecture plays a big role. It's like Crucial vs. regular Micron

You know that 1 ton of feathers actually weighs more than 1 ton of gold? They measure things wierd at Fort Knox vs. feather weighing, I read something up on this years ago.

http://www.hardocp.com/reviews/vidcards ... ndex2.html

on top of the 3dmark scores it tells you they clocked the 8500le at 275/275 for this review

3dmark 2001se at 1024x768
The radeon 8500 128 gets 8406
The radeon 8500le 128 gets 7978

Ha ha i got you on this one Brent!

you are mis-interpreting the informatin

perhaps I should have made it a bit clearer

The one that says "Radeon 8500 128" IS the 8500LE overclocked to 275/275

The "Radeon 8500LE 128MB" is the same video card at LE speeds

lol

It's the same card

All I did was take the 8500LE and overclock it to 8500 speeds then called it Radeon 8500 128MB

get it now?

let me know if you don't, i'll try and make it even clearer

maybe someone else here can say it better then me

oh well can you add teh radeon 8500 64 to the comparison cause i want to see how my card would stand to that? Like what would the radeon 8500 64 get in 3dmark in that same system?

I do not have one, if you'd like to provide one i'd be glad to benchmark it in this system and compare it

im sorry i just bought my 8500 and i kind of want my 8500 lol but that would be such a great review: radeon 8500 le vs the radeon 8500 64 and test how they differ when overclocked and to see if its a great value to go with the 8500le or the 8500 with ocing ability and performance and of course value. Ive been looking for a review like that for a while and i want to get over my mistake of returning my 8500le for the 8500 64. I would really appreciate it if you can do this review :)

ok, let me explain something here people..heh.

same MHz = same performance, if ANYTHING, the LE's would perform better at the same ram speed since their mem timings are more agressive (slow mhz + agressive timings to help the speed some)..you can flash an LE w/ a retail bios and usually OC higher since the timings are relaxed.. BUT all in all, they basically perform the same..PLEASE believe brent.. there is no exception..not if it'll go to the same mhz speeds.

I would have to differ with that thinking Amro :)

Now we all know the falacy of thinking Mhz=performance in CPU's I highly doubt that it is ENTIRELY different for video cards. I don't dispute Brent's facts nor the numbers, but we all know that there is alot more to 'performance' than sheer specs.

Take for example drivers....new drivers basically allow for increased performance from the same hardware. So upgrading drivers can=increased performance.

Now I know this isn't about drivers but saying mhz=performance in a forum like this is just begging for someone to come in and flame :D For god's sake man..look what AMD has done!!
