Firmware (Linksys)
Firmware (Linksys)
I'm going ot give this one more go around since I don't have nohting to do right now.... Which firmware is the most stable? Which have you been using and for how long? Any problems with it?
If I can't find a good firmware that run's stable without dropping my connection this is going back tomorrow..

You know, you've never really said what was wrong with anything you've had or done so far. People have offered to help, but you seem to ignore it. I told you in your last post the 1.40.2 firmware was stable. Yet, you chose to install the 1.40.1 version.
What specifically is "Hammering"? That's not a networking term I'm familiar with. What were you doing when it "freezes"? What "Freezes" ? There's a lot of sharp people here that will help you, but you need to be specific.
The Netgear is a nice little machine, but you couldn't get it working. The Linky is an economical home unit. I've installed a couple dozen of them. I've had mine for a long time, and host a web server; exchange server; ftp server; and my entire office behind it. Sometimes 8-10 pc's, with no trouble. I run two software IPsec VPN clients through it, and one IPsec VPN behind it. It handles it all, with no trouble. The only things I;ve heard definitive that the linksys does not handle well is some game servers. I don't know what their requirements are, so I can't comment on them.
But at some point, you've got to realize that maybe you're doing something wrong, not the router. The Netgear was no good; the Linksys was no good. I'm really wondering if the Nexland is going to suit you any better.
My linksys router has been hammered all day but after a good hour or so of hammering (bandwidth) it freezes!

Observe everything...focus on nothing..
Yeah, you need to slow down and allow the more than capable members of this forum to help you.
Although Linksys routers have a bad reputation, especailly on this forum, it's still possible to work with them and have success, but you have to allow this to happen. Besides twwabw, CM Weaver has had success with the Linksys router. To reiterate, routers aren't plug and play. Configuration will be required with any router, including NexLand routers.

In the last hour I tried a number of firmware patches from the newest down. I tried 1.36 and haven't hade a problem yet. Each time I tried a new version of firmware I started all the internet applications on my computers to see if the router would freeze like it was doing before. During Each update I pushed my router till to see if it would freeze. During most of the firmware updates all I hade to do was play a high quality video stream and start an online game on another computer then the router would freeze. When I installed version 1.36 I opened the video stream, started online game, dowlnoaded a file and the router didn't freeze. It seems like most people on other forums have good luck with that version of firmware, now i'm on of those people.
Most of the other Firmware updates would drop my IP address of my modem even while the router was idle but was more likely to drop it under high network traffic. With version 1.36 it hasn't happened yet.
I'll give this firmware a full day in use and see what happens. Hopefully things will be good from here on out.

Where do I get older firmware for my linkSys router ? I am looking for 1.36 and up. One of the stable versions for online gaming.
Seems only the latest is on the Linksys site, so try PM'ing twwabw.

I've done about 25 Linksys firmware upgrades here and there over the past several months, ever since 1.37 or so, they've been pretty good. I know some versions after 1.40 had some issues with FTP and blocking tracert, but 1.39, and the very latest, have been fine.

make sure it's for your model

My two cents
I've just finished reading these threads, and all I can say is, since I just installed a Linksys befsr41 with firmware version 1.40.2, I've not encountered any problems whatsoever! Plus, my speeds increased some. I love this no login, save systems resources, built in firewall stuff! Also, you can (in your Linksys browser) make modifications as to how other ports etc, connect to you!
I'm a "newbie" in the router applications, but I see many options and ways to customize your settings. I'm happy now, but who knows, I could be back, and sounding like some of the other guys!
