Woohoo I can driver now. Well just a little longer till my license is in the pocket but time to look for a car. The only reason I can consider this car is because my father is thinking about trading in his caddy. So any GM car manufactor(hence chevy) will eat his 4 lease payments. That and my local dealer is having a special. So what do you guys think of the car? Just anything from a rant to a rave.

The only reason I'm not going for a truck is I show up prom night with sand bags in the back of the bed, and there I am in a cab with a tux. Not the... prettys ride for prom ya know.

you're getting a brand new car?

parents must be loaded...

I wouldn't buy/get an american car but that's just MY opinion, I guess the car looks pretty good, If I were you I'd get a manual transmission car.

Depends on how well they are put to use..... 140 hp doesn't seem THAT bad to me... Especially 'cause most of ya aren't allowed to go any faster than 55 or 65 anyways :D .

See, formula one engines produce 650 hp out of 3 liters (or something in that range). And that's without turbos by regulation! Of course, neither the type of fuel nor the fuel consumption nor the rest of the formula one's cars are suitable for road driving, but you get the idea. It depends on what you do with the engine displacement, not the displacement itself.

Unless, you are talking about engine sound..... Nothing beats the roar of the Viper... 8.0 liters.

I've just gotta say its a nice car for a 16 year old.. and happy birthday.

by the time your 16 years old and 20 minutes later while driving that Chevy.. you will wish you could get yourself one of these

why not have luxury in a sport coupe?

Test Drive one dude.. its really something you won't forget. nor regret.

Oh... try not to fall asleep while driving.. 1 person dies every 29 hours due to falling asleep behind the wheel.. usually the driver has an airbag but the friend not wearing a safetybelt doesn't..

Have fun and try to keep a clean driving record.... by the time your age 25 and paying your own car insurance, you will see a dramatic drop in Deluxe Coverage Automobile insurance cost.

HAPPY 16th BIRTHDAY and many more.. dude I don't know you..
get it up, get it in, get it out, and don't mess up my hair!

lol...when i turned 16 a car and drivers license was the farthest thing from my mind....driving ain't all that....it get's old driving your friends around after a while, plus all the crazies on the street that can't drive :D

happy birthday man

and cavalier's wouldnlt be my first choice. I really dont know what to tell you to get, as I've never looked at a brand new car before.

I did test drive a Kia Rio....to everyone out there, DO NOT even think of driving a Kia....they are like soooo horrible...I could make a better car myself out of cardboard, lol.

talk to you dad about what is good cars to get.
Personally if you have to get chevy, I'd get the new 2003 Camaro...or Chevy Avalanche....Chevy Lumina is a very nice and reliable car too

Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!

If I was turning 16 and my dad said he was going to give me a car for free with no extra expences I would get the best car he could afford. If my dad said that I was to pay for the insurance then I would look for a 4 door with no extra toys to keep my costs down.

Cavaliers S*ck. I had one recently as a rental car. Worst car I ever drove. Forget about listening to the radio the cars too noisy. You'll have a constant headache. Just my 2 cents. :D

I didn't get my first car till I was 18, i had to save up to get one, i didn't have enough money at 16, i had saved up $2500 by 18 and got my first car, a 1994 Hyundai Excel Hatch Back, it was ghetto. 1.8 litre I think, 100hp it sucked as a car, BUT it was my first one, and my first taste of freedom, and that my friend weighs more then what type of car it is.

Happy 16

drive carefully

i always recommend NOT getting a brand new car as your first car, because accidents do happen, and you are unexperienced. After a couple years of driving a ghetto car and learning the ways of the roads then you can upgrade to a new car, just in time for College.

that and the old shelby mustangs

hemi, old Camaro SS, GTO, well you know where Im going with this...I just dont think newer american cars are built as well as they used to be....except for SUVs which they seem to be building better...lol...

just dont get a plain car....or a saturn... :D

If your showing up to prom with sand bags in the back of your truck at the end of April (when prom usually is here) in Colorado your not right in the head :) LOL Don't be a wuss! :) It barely snows here and you really only need the bags if your driving a full size that's 2x2 or a light 4x4 like a Toyota.

Im going to have to disagree with that. I know many american cars that have lasted just as long as imports.

If you beat the piss outta a car its gonna crap out just as fast as any other car in the same condition. There is so much that comes into play you cannot say one will outlast the other.

If you want really fast speed dont buy an import. If your into looks well then its up to you.

ok CoolJ I knew that was gonna come from you :D

Im talking about a general statement, not a "it beats EVERY car."

yes american cars can last as long as or even longer than imports...but there are a lot of american cars that are built well...but they just arent of quality....take my car for example.

98' malibu

2 left speakers shorted and blew (no I nor my mom turned the volume up too loud)

1 battery DONE....not blaming the care for this..but a year old battery with normal wear and tear shouldnt be completely dead

1 power steering pump FAILED and shattered the rod within the power steering lines. ok this I DO blame on the car because it only has 27k miles on it and it shouldnt have failed...not yet atleast....considering I actually take care of the power steering system.

02' Saturn SC2 (brothers)

was taken back under the lemon law....was taken in 5 times for bad suspension problems...he got a new car :D

98' explorer

too many recalls to name, other than that...none of the recalls have caused a problem....great truck

1 thermostat failed causing the truck to overheat easily.

1 problem with the suspension.

ok those were american cars.....does this account for ALL american cars? no. does this mean imports dont have problems or never have recalls? no.

but a good import company (IE honda, subaru, nissan, etc) generally have good cars that are built well

(this excludes hyundai and kia for obvious reasons)

no I dont hate american cars....I just think you have to spend your money wisely...as with any car.

yet a general census of my import owning friends havent had ANY problems with their cars to date...one with even 125k miles on it

CoolJ Im not knockin on your precious IROC...lol...so dont take offense...but I sure you see where Im coming from right?

I like american cars, but I prefer (just my taste) imports....

used to hate the ricer craze...now I love imports...as long as they ARE as fast as they claim to be (no coffee can exausts and type R stickers on a stock CIVIC...have an engine to match the claims)

sorry it came off wrong CoolJ.....camaroes are cool

as well as corvettes vipers and anything else with a little detroit muscle :)

It's cool, I totaly understand

With your experiences I can see why. Where I own to old American cars and they run perfect with no problems as of late. And I have friends with new imports having problems already (more or less little stuff, nuttin really big) You seem to have bad luck with american cars :D I think it can go either way.

I dont hate imports at all. When I said dont buy imports if you want really fast, I mean like vette fast. My cars fast, but not super fast. There are some imports that will hand me my ass. I dont wanna come off as "I got a 350, no one can beat me" I know my limitations.

My friend is gonna be boostin in his civic by summer, If he gets it running right, bye bye IROC.

But then we get into the $ issue, He bought the civic brand new, and is paying $$ out his ass for the turbo and crap. Give me $3000 to put in my car and.............. :D

I seriously dont hate imports, I dont wanna come off as a redneck with a mullet :p
