New vehicle.. New sound system issues..

Previously I owned an '89 Jeep Cherokee, just traded it in for a '96 Grand Cherokee, or the one below..

With newer vehicles come newer technology advancements, and of course different sound system setups. Chrysler wanted to be different from the rest, and from it's own Cherokee lineup and implement a different type of stereo to fit it's dashboards, or what's commonly known as the double DIN stereo mount type. Below is the stereo that the vehicle currently has..

I'm having a hard time determining whether the radio that actually fits in this dashboard is a 1.5 DIN or a double DIN stereo. Since I have never dealt with this type of stereo mount before, I don't want to purchase a stereo that won't fit in there. Of course, I would consider putting the single DIN stereo I purchased for my previous jeep, but I would have to do some serious maneuvering and improvising since the dashboard hole for it is a tad bigger than the stereo itself.

So.. From looking at these pictures, is it a double DIN or a 1.5 DIN stereo, or what mount type would fit on this dashboard? Thanks in advance!

You can go to http://www.crutchfield.com and select your vehicle and choose receivers of some kind. it will only give a list of the ones that fit, AND it will tell you what size they are. DIN, DIN and HALF, or DOUBLE DIN.

really all you would need is a dash mounting kit from a place like Best Buy or a local car audio shop. That way you can buy pretty much any radio you want.

With a Dremel, I could take out that AC vent and get a six inch LCD TV in that hole no problem.

....a mounting kit is a better idea though....

ya best buy, tweeter, circuit city have mounts to make it all fit.

Or even better, while at Crutchfield, order one of their installation kits for your vehicle. It includes a higher quality mounting bracket than the ones I've seen and also includes a wiring harness that makes installation a breeze. Plus, you get installation phone support from them if needed. I think these kits run about twnty bucks.
