Windows XP Evaluation Copy

Hello,

I have an evaluation copy of Windows XP installed. This evaluation copy will only last for 120 days. I was wondering if I would be able to upgrade to the full version of Windows XP Pro after these 120 days. Can an evaluation copy be upgraded to the non-expiring retail copy?

From what I've heard, it can't be. However, I'd be glad to sell off my copy of XP Professional...haven't installed it in about 5 months, so it should be good to go on another chipset.

Your best bet is to back up all of your important data and do a fresh install.

Evaluation copies often do not have all of the features or inf files that you may need to do a proper upgrade.

In my opinion if you care or not just start uninstallin now and get rid of XP 100% its a horrible OS.

Well, I don't know exactly how many files this evaluation version is missing, but it seems to be exactly like the retail version of XP, just with the 120 day expiration.

I would not want to format this system, as there has been a lot of stuff that has been done to it. It is a notebook pc, so transfering large files would be very hard.

XP is terrible. More interfaces/wizards for idiots, requires too much disk space/sys. ram, and is still has the typical new OS issues. Stick to 2k.

I'd be willing to sell the version MS sent me...it's the full version of XP Pro and has a serial number, but no documentation. I installed it when I got it, but decided 98SE beat it out by a large margin and formatted the drive. Haven't touched XP since (5+ months) so it should active on another system.

How about $50?

The evaluation builds cannot be upgraded to full release. You need to copy your data, and do a fresh install.

Yeah, thanks. That is exactly what I needed. I have already purchased my copy of Windows XP because I knew that my evaluation copy would expire very soon.
