HDD problem

Post by Ahoyhoy »

I was done assembling my grandpa's new computer today when I realized that the computer wasn't recognizing the hard drive, but only the cd rom. I switched busses, cables, and even made the hard drive the slave for the cd, all to failure. So I stuck the troublesome hard drive into my other working comp, and it picks it up just fine. However, I stick it back in my grandpa's computer as a master on IDE 1 or 2, still no recognization. When I make the hard drive the slave of the cd, the comp says no ide devices connected!?! Any ideas on what to do? Here's my list below

Abit KT7e
AMD Athlon 950MHz
PC 133 128MB RAM
20G Western Digital 7200RPM
MSI 32MB GeForce2 MX
Samsung 52x CD ROM

Try disconnecting the cdrom and using that plug for the HD. Perhaps the ide plug is worn and only two of the three end plugs work?

Also, consider changing the Molex plug you use?? maybe the Drive isnt getting power?? Could be the IDE cable too. :D :D

Take the jumper off the HD completely and try that, if that doesnt work try the Cable select position. Different controllers may require different settings. Stranger things have happened.
