hello everyone - haven't been around lately. i have a few questions please:
1> all of a sudden, my hotmail messages show up in history. i can sign out of hotmail, then go to history and see the messages i just viewed without having to enter my user name or password. what's up with that? ? ? before, if you clicked on hotmail in history, it went to the sign in screen and you couldn't view anything without knowing the password.
2> is there a way with wXP pro to password protect a folder. i know about the administrator rights and all but if i stay logged in as admin. can i have a folder that is proteced from being opened, deleted or renamed by anyone else that is operating as administrator? ? ? otherwise does anyone know of a freeware program that will accomplish this? ? ?
3> i need to send a friend a file <through hotmail> but it is too big. using winzip, i zipped the file but it only changed the file properties from 3.6M to 3.2M which is still way too big. did i do something wrong or is that all the size you save by zipping it. is there another way to zip or compress a file? ? ? i need to get the 3.6M file down to around 700 - 800 K.
thanks

Delete the hotmail cookies, you must of allowed to remember password or something and it's embedded into a cookie.Originally posted by SVO-1

Try sharing the folder and then under the share properties only allow you to be able to view it / access it.2> is there a way with wXP pro to password protect a folder. i know about the administrator rights and all but if i stay logged in as admin. can i have a folder that is proteced from being opened, deleted or renamed by anyone else that is operating as administrator? ? ? otherwise does anyone know of a freeware program that will accomplish this? ? ?
Sounds like it's allready compressed and if it is you can't compress it any more. However you can try zipping it again using maximum compression. Another solution is split the file in 1/2 using like winrar and make into like 2 1.44mb files and send one at a time and then the receiver of the files would have to unrar it.3> i need to send a friend a file <through hotmail> but it is too big. using winzip, i zipped the file but it only changed the file properties from 3.6M to 3.2M which is still way too big. did i do something wrong or is that all the size you save by zipping it. is there another way to zip or compress a file? ? ? i need to get the 3.6M file down to around 700 - 800 K.
3rd solution is .. if you have a personal web site pop it up there and have your friend d/l it from there.
4th solution .. get a real email account

how do i do that. is it a hotmail thing? ? ? i delete cookies and cache all the time. it isn't remembering the password because if i go to hotmail.com i have to enter user name & password to get in. i just checked and even everything i type here in the forum shows up in history. i don't think that use to happen either.
Try sharing the folder and then under the share properties only allow you to be able to view it / access it.
thanks - i'll try that

1.) the problem you are having with IE 6 not remembering your password.. well. if you are using the IE 6 right now.. you can go Click on Tools then Internet Options. Tab Content. Then button click on auto complete. then uncheck prompt me for passwords then click button clear passwords.. then check prompt me for passwords. Click OK and get out of the Internet Options by clicking OK. Now You gotta restart your IE Browser and Login to Hotmail. When you are asked to save passwords click okay. it will take you to email... but to prove that I give you the right directions... sign out of hotmail. Close your browser. Restart your computer. login in as usual. Connect to the internet. Launch Browser. Go to Hotmail. Right Click Where your Login in name goes. It should show your name. Highlight it. And your password should appear hidden behind astericks (*) [eight or more of them.] Click on sign in or hit enter. Back to the inbox.
2.) Well I'm not sure about your second Problem. I mean there is software out there called "Max Crypt". It's free and it encrypts folders and files.. (with the exception of system files. e.g. index.dat) its free at http://www.nonags.com
3.) File Splitting software out there that allows you to send split files and the other person doesn't need to have the software to put it back together.. yeah its true.. let me find a name of it.. its at http://www.nonags.com somewhere... go there. find a mirror. and search for lots of freeware that works. Try whalemail.. not sure if there still around but it might be another option for sending larger files via email.
get maxcrypt its really the best program that I know of for password protecting folders, it also encrypts it the file(s) when you log off incase you forget to do it. I share a computer with a couple of people at work... and I have them using "Max Crypt" too... On my home computer ..well I'm not using XP. But "Max Crypt" works very well too.
