Network Startup XP
Network Startup XP
When I startup my computer, its looking for something on the network, so it stalls the taskbar. I already made the IP on the LAN a static IP. Is there any other way to speed up this process so I can have a faster windows and taskbar startup?
What I am using:
-Verizon DSL w/ native XP PPPoE
-Windows XP Professional
-1 GHz Pentium III
-256 MB RAM
-IBM NetVista

I'm guessing you have dual NICs in the XP box, and it's running ICS for your LAN?
Either way, I don't know if you're comparing this delay to the same computer running XP before "something" happened, or comparing it to another OS you had before, like Win9X. XP, being Windows NT underneath (just Windows NT version 6.0), NT can take a while to fully boot up when you install more on it. "Services" are still starting up even after you log on, it may appear like it's booted up, but you've still got a bit to go. With Win9X, once you log on, everything is pretty much done booting up.
If you're using XP's built in PPPoE to log onto DSL...there's another thing that's still running, and can take another 10 seconds or so to log on.
Do you have any anti-virus that's set to check for any updates when connected?
Check event viewer and see if any services or applications are erroring.

I have ANG antivirus, which does not slow down my computer. I already disabled several services. I know its my network connection. XP is looking for something in the network at startup. Any way to speed up the network/process?
