Network Startup XP

Post by softworks »

When I startup my computer, its looking for something on the network, so it stalls the taskbar. I already made the IP on the LAN a static IP. Is there any other way to speed up this process so I can have a faster windows and taskbar startup?
What I am using:
-Verizon DSL w/ native XP PPPoE
-Windows XP Professional
-1 GHz Pentium III
-256 MB RAM
-IBM NetVista

It is actually a proven fact on Tom's Hardware Guide that if you turn your CPU on and off as a daily routine, you lessen the life of the CPU. It gets warm and then cold and then warm again, causes the parts to fatigue faster than just leaving them warm. Especially if you overclock and the CPU is hotter, there is a greater delta in temps, providing that the ambience temps remain constant.
