Verizon DSL and XP Professional???
Verizon DSL and XP Professional???
I have a computer with 2000 Professional, 98, 98, and XP Professional. The 2000, 98 and 98 get a download speed of 660kb\s out of a total 768kb\s, which is great. But my XP Professional machine only get 473kb\s at constant. I tried the QoS thing already and tried tweaking RWIN and etc with the TCPOptimizer. I am kind of lost and stuck, can you help me?
What I am using:
-Verizon DSL w/ native XP PPPoE
-Windows XP Professional
-1 GHz Pentium III
-256 MB RAM
-IBM NetVista

Try everything I posted here with the exception of try the following changes:
DefaultRecieveWindow/ GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize/TcpWindowSize= 31944,46464,63888,95832,127776
Try all of these and see if it helps.

IMO your Rwin (Recieve Window) should be 20048

With Dr.TCP, please m,ake sure you select your Ethernet card in the drop down menu, and not the default PPP adapter.

Yes I am. It doesn't seem to speed up anything. In fact I get 495 with the native XP PPPoE set at default settings, than with TCPOpt. in which I get 473. So right now I am using the defaults and an RWIN of 63360. ...???

I thought you said you couldn't change it? Or does it mean it didn't change your speed? No tweak is guarenteed to help your speed your problems could be line related, home wiring, ISP problems etc. etc.

I can't help since my last question has still not been answered about Dr.TCP "I thought you said you couldn't change it? Or does it mean it didn't change your speed? No tweak is guarenteed to help your speed your problems could be line related, home wiring, ISP problems etc. etc."

Like I said, my network is fine because I tried the Win2000 laptop with my CAT 5 cable that connects me to the internet. The results were faster on the laptop. So I assumed the problem was an my end. And DrTCP does change my RWIN. In other words my RWIN is changed and my speed is the same at arounf 490kb\s to 495.

Do your speed tests here after you turn off all running programs http://www.speakeasy.net/main.php?page=sup_pops , select site nearest to you, turn everything off thats running, Check Tasbar, 1 browser, clear cache
Even though it is not the nearest the Dallas test is pretty quick
BEFORE SPEEDTEST
1.) Make sure defrag has been run, defragmented files slow you down.
2. At top of IE, click on Tools, internet options, click on delete files and click on offline files (It's safe), click on clear history, yes
3.) Go to Start button, programs, accessories, system tools, disk cleanup, Click OK (Safe)
4.) Run scandisk (Short version)
5.) Scandisk on XP?
Click on My Computer, select Drive that XP is on, RIGHT click on BLANK place, select properties, then tools at top tab, click check now, check box automattically fix system errors, click start,
then test. Turn all running programs off. Reboot computer so you have all your RAM
