My Dream Home
The “dream home” of today is much more complicated than that of the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. Back then, a “simple” house was just starting to come about, and everybody wanted the average thing, which became known as the dream home. Now-a-days, everybody has different ideas on what they want in their home. I would like a simple house, yet very technologically advanced. My dream home would consist of 4 or 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a “fun” room for a pool table and other entertainment, and a large back yard for my dog. Also I would need a pool and a jacuzzi in my back yard.
Every room must be wired with a CAT5E drop (network wiring) at the same location as each electricity plug in every room excluding bathrooms; that is where wireless network technology comes in. Every room must have a computer, and there would be a laptop for each family member to use wherever they go in the house, of course with the laptops using wireless network technology. All computers would hook up to one or two Cisco Gigabit Switches and then log on to a central DHCP server, allowing you to take your settings wherever you go, on any computer you go on. A DNS server would be setup locally on my own dual T1 line coming into the house via fiber optics. All local networks would be gigabit, courtesy of the new CAT5E with the finer twisted pair.
My home would have to be within 2 miles of the beach. Now all I have to do is find some way to pay for this.

A dream home? A bedroom with sound insulation in all 6 surfaces and the phone on the other side of the house.
Ummm...fiber would be pretty cool.

The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

very true... and while we're discussing the impossible...how about an oc-27, and with thie fiber in each room, and a freaking expensive cisco switch.. trunk those babies.. 10-way trunking for a 10-gigabit network... 1.2 Gigabytes/sec...Originally posted by WillBeTrippin
They are actually starting to put fiber to every room in some new houses in silicon valley. I'd rather have that than CAT5.

It's not impossible. Whole housing additions in Seattle and other large cities already have them, and more and more new houses are being built. By 2005, I'm pretty sure that it will be standard. The fiber is actually not that expensive, it's getting the Internet access that can take advantage of that pipe that will cost you.Originally posted by Qwijib0
