XP Startup Waits for Norton Antivirus
XP Startup Waits for Norton Antivirus
I am running Norton Antivirus 2002 on my machine. Whenever I startup my computer, my computer waits a minute for the red cross on Norton to disappear and become enabled. Why is that? I'd like to know because it slows down my startup.

It's often still scanning files from the bootup scan, then it takes a bit to load real time file protection, then live update reaches out to mothership to look for any definition or program updates to install, downloads and installs them if there are any (which are usually once a week or so).
Also, unlike Win9X, Windows NT is still loading many other services in the background even though you log on and get to desktop, so it's not really truely done booting up. Unlike Win9X, which was pretty much all done once you got to desktop.

Is there a way to make the bootup and startup faster?
Try tweakxp.com for some tweaks to boot faster, and get the powertoys from MS too.
A few good links......

To speed up Norton at boot you could go into the config for it and disable the bootscan, realtime protect, and live update. Up to you, but if they are disabled, they don't protect you.
Do you know of any programs that speed up Norton Antivirus, or any special configurations? Because whenever I disable Norton, my applications open at top speed. I would like it to be that way, when its enabled.
