Lan help

Post by Alby »

hi
i have purchased the LNE10/100tx-v4 nic and followed all installation instructions.
the card shows up in device manager and there are no conflicts etc
when i assign an ip address and use ipconfig/all to see the pinformation it says media state "cable disconnected"

i have this connected to another nic via crossover cable, will it only work via a hub?

gonna get a new cable tomorrow incase this one is knackered
but why does it still not show my assigned IP address when i run ipconfig as surely the cable can be disconnected and this will still show up as it does on my other pc

when i run the diag.exe it says it cannot find my card
both systems have W2k and using TCP/IP
any suggestions please?

First, do you have a network client installed in the network neighborhood?

Sorry it's taking so long to get back to you. I'm at work abnd it's nuts. Try "winipcfg" from RUN rather than a DOS prompt.
The crossover cable is right for NIC to NIC. Flip the cable around and use the know good end on the misfiring PC to check it.
IP assigned static, WINS disabled, DNS disabled auto, TCP/IP set as default protocol?

i appreciate the time dude,
i tryed that (ipconfig for w2k) everything is as i think it should look
if i ping 127.0.0.1 thats loopback mnethinks and it works so the nic should be ok
the thing i'm not getting is why it says cable disconnected and doesn't show my ip settings
has ne1 got this card (linkysys 10/100tx) and have they had similiar probs?
the other nic is 3com combo type so maybe thats why that one doesn't need cable connected to set it up ip
i'm guessing now but this driving me crazy

hi Eddiec, it was a hardware prob
i got a router/modem and hooked the nics up to this it turned out that the nic that was showing no probs (3com) had a faulty rj45 port so the other nic was showing disconned
i feel rather silly now lol......oh well u live and learn
tnx for trying to help
