Also the answer depends on what you do with your computer, your primary purpose for it (IE gaming), in which case, besides CPU, you want vid card, sound card, speakers, monitor, motherboard of course, your internet connection and all it's equipment.
It's the sum of all the parts you put into it.
It does depend on what you do with your system, but you also have to realize, if you don't use certain parts for
ANY basic system, whether it be for gaming or for regular CAD working or even just regular desktop usage, the system won't be very stable and will give you problems later on down the road. Like I said, for everything else, it's an accessory for the computer to suits the person who is using it ( if for gaming, fast cpu and video card. If for a home server, some 3com network cards or what not along side with a raid setup.) The rest should vary from person to person.
I'm not trying to say, what you should go out and buy specificly for gaming, but for any basic computer. Before anything else, these part are very important in my honest opinion compared to that of everything else.
The reason I limited it to four is to see what people find important. To see what they will build their system around them. Some people think video cards are more important then hard drives, so that tells you that they are more into gaming and video intensive usage, while people like me preffer faster and more reliable hard drive storage to start off with on the bat.
It's just to see what you would use as the base to build you system around.
