You should get a modem that is on your ISP's approved list.

I prefer the Motorola.

Does your ISP offer speeds in excess of 4mbps by chance? If so, get the Toshiba. Otherwise, SB is pretty good.

Toshiba goes faster than the others past a certain point. Its been proven with OOL. But the SB has the diag page, so if you dont get super speeds, get the SB with the diag page.

Bet you dont get 8mbps. There is a higher chance youd get the better speeds with the Toshiba (or Terayon).

That doesnt matter! Im tellign you, the Toshiba and Terayon go faster on OOL than the other modems on average. What they are "capable" of doesnt matter.

Terayon

Post by MikeyMan »

Optie OL will give you a Motorola SB4100 or a 3com Sharkfin. Most people report faster service with a Tobisha. I highly recommend a Terayon Terajet that you can pick up at your local Wiz store. :)

I like the Mot SB4100

because I think it is the only modem (besides the old proprietary Motorolas) that give an accurate receive power in the modem gui.

You can get that information with the RCA modems (models 215 and up), but it involves a process of statically setting your ip address, then accessing a very specific web page with the information...the motorola makes it easy by just typing in 192.168.100.1.
