Just F.Y.I I have a buddy who works as a Tier 1 tech for AT&T and she said that yesterday they had 800 people waiting in Q at about 3 hours. It is getting crazy out there
Hi, thanks for taking time to help me. I just got transitioned over from @Home in Illinois to ATTBI, and my modem synched up this afternoon. I have a motorola SB4100 modem, and all the lights are solid and the activity light is blinking. I can release and renew my IP to get my new IP from ATT, but I cannot access the internet. I am using a router but at present the modem is connected directly to the main PC. I have checked all the TCP/IP settings to make sure they're set on 'obtain ip and dns automatically', but I don't know what else I am doing wrong. This is happening to a lot of people in my area and some in Colorado too. Do you know what's going on?
You need to reboot your router. Exactly how you get your router to reconfigure itself to the new network will vary from router to router. I have the NetGear RT314 and all I had to do is go into the web wizard setup, delete the @home information -- I left the computer name, but they say that is not needed anymore -- and then left everything else at default for DHCP (Dynamic IP address). Once I exited that setup, I was online. I never had to change anything on either of my computers and never had to reboot. Then, reconfigure your email server to mail.attbi.com and addresses to @attbi.com and you're set!
On a non-router setup, you need to change your workgroup to attbi and make sure your network setting are setup for DHCP. AT&T is adamant about everyone using DHCP and if you do not use DHCP you are operating against the AUP and risk losing your access. I have had the same IP address since coming online with the new network early Saturday morning.
BlueJetta, i have already done that. I released/renewed my IP through my SMC setup page and it downloads my new ip from the ATT DHCP server, but after that, I still can not connect to any webpage. I can't even ping my gateway.
Then you'll need to contact AT&T. I don't know your location, but I know in the Portland area we still have a handful of people not online because their modems/nics were not recognized on the transition. Sorry you have to make The Phone Call, but that's going to happen to some people.
Originally posted by Jessm Im just starting to get my back on here in Seattle....willl we ever get the old speed back?
Nope. Though AT&T says they will be considering 'tiered' accounts at a later date. Whatever that means. What it will mean is you paying more for what you used to get for the current price. Isn't free enterprise fun?
OK here we go! I am in North Seattle (Kenmore). I too am having problems actually accessing the internet. I get everything inorder and have named the workgroup attbi. Yet I am getting nothing. Has anyone gotten this fixed w/out making the call? I had it installed yesterday and the installer tried to use his ME laptop and nothing. So I get the line that tech support isn't even up yet till saturday or monday. I can't ping the gateway. Any help or other settings that could check? How about WINS settings I can't ge those.....
What is the gateway address that you are trying to ping I know down in south seattle we are looking into a possible bad gateway address, this may be your problem,
once I loaded the @home software from the old disk ,went to the website and ran the patch which in fact removed all the @home software from my system I was able to get the DHCP assigned IP and overall it has been improving daily though I am still only getting around 200k down and about 20 % of my pages dropped
instead of around 80 % like three days ago.
I hate this service and I have never even gotten to use it yet!!
Umm hello i want to cancel the service I got that doesn't work.
I looked into DSL. Verizon (home phone service) doesn't service my phone. Hmm I wonder who is charging me for my dial tone then.
I hope this is resolved sometime before the end of the year. Seriously.
Now when i got the @Home installed I have to use thier modem. I BOUGHT MY OWN!! But they said that it was only till the new system tech support was up and running in our area.
I am frustrated.
If there is anyone in Seattle that has gotten their service to work. PLease send me your gateway address or anything that will allow me to connect and then disconnect this dial up!!
Is there sortware that I am supposed to use for XP??
AHHHHHHH, this sucks. I am in Sacramento. I just got converted to ATTBI. I can connect, but the speed is terrible, I have unplugged both power and cable to the modem and the computer.I just cannot get the pages to load, the status bar on IE just sits there, if I hit the stop button on IE, the page loads. Anyone have any ideas of what I can try or is this just as good as it is gonna get? Man, what I would give to have the old cable system back. I d/l Pingplotter, I got 6KB/per sec. Yet when I run Pingplotter, my avg time is 60-80. I tried to d/l a file from Microsoft, used to get 500-700KB per sec, now I am lucky to get 10-30KB per sec.
Sr Ops: With your netowrk just coming back online, it sometimes takes a few days for the dust to settle. It was like that up here in the Portland/Vancouver area for a few days too. Sometimes it'd be fine, and then it would die. Patience is your best friend right now. Also make sure your network settings are correct and that you're not running, or trying to run the @home software or proxies. All that junk needs to be gone! Everything must be set to auto. Other than that, it's just a matter of waiting until the network is pieced back together again and your path to the backbone completed.
Blue Jetta, I say "Just got connected", it was last Weds.(5) days ago. How long did it take for you to get going again? I don't have any of the @home software on my computer. I did however d/l the win2k speed patch from Speedguide. Other than that, all of my settings are Auto. I guess I will have to wait and see. Boy this is killing me
Judging by the low amount of posts on here I am thinking people are'nt having much trouble with AATBI.
But I am. I am connected but after my computer has been on a while, pages I go back to stop loading and the only way to get them back is to restart my computer. I have heard of others having the problem. I downloaded the config thingy that ATTBI had so I believe I am correct in my settings (or not). I also changed my workgroup to "ATTBI".
I am running windows 2000. Any thing else you guys can help with?

Yeah, I know it sucks. Up here, we were fairly smooth out of the box with only an occasional hiccups in email and web servers. One thing you might try in to manually input your DNS servers as you're probably getting DNS errors. I'm not familiar with 2K, but it sounds like you'd know how to get that done. That helped me up here with resolving addresses, though some sites are still kinda slow responding.
Other than that, you might try contacting AT&T or checking with other Sacto folks and see if other peeps are having the same probs.
200KB/ps? That's way over the 1.5mbps cap. Typo? Anyway, after 10 days, I'd call for sure. Make sure you get the credits too. I hear they are fudging on credits if you have 'partial connectivity.' Good luck!
Originally posted by Jasona I am having the same problem with XP pro. I have to hit reapair network almost evry 5 mins to keep things running. Anyone have an answer for this??
Stop the DNS CLIENT and set it to MANUAL.
This will also fix WIN 2000!!!
