What do you do for kicks?

Post by Humboldt »

As in, non-computer related.

I go canoeing, play disc golf, drink, walk my dogs Border Collie and Black Lab), target shoot with my bow or rifles, landscape my friend's property, go camping, maintain a whole bunch of houseplants, shoot pool, chainsawing, etc...

Read.
Write Poetry.
Go for walks.
Write stories.
Enter in Journal.
Meditate.
Contemplate matters of the heart.
So trade that typical for something colorful, and if it's crazy live a little crazy!

How's paintballing? Sounds like a rush, I keep on meaning to try it someday. A friend of mine owns some property that would be perfect. Brushy fields with a big barn and some old sheds, surrounded by forest.

My ideal Friday night is kicking back with good friends, my b/f, a beer and a cigarette, shoot some pool and maybe throw some darts.

Saturdays I like to work on my house. Saturday night is a good night to see a band or watch a movie.

I'm a big hockey fan. My b/f and I are trying to travel to every hockey arena to see a game. We try to do at least one a year and we've gone to four thus far.

Sometimes I just sit and watch my two cats act all silly. What in the heck goes on in a cats mind? Crazy animals...

What sort of kayak do you have? I keep on meaning to try that too. I love canoeing, and live right on the coast in an area with several good rivers. Never been sure whether to get an ocean kayak or a whitewater one.

It is a river runner..MG's youngest got one for his birthday, but we had to buy one to go out with him. He never uses it so we do..
We are right on Georgian Bay, and we have great places to go. :)

Fantasy-type. I can't say I'm any good.. I'm only 15. Here's the first chapter (Rough Draft) of a story I have...

The Mysterious Visitor
“Good morning son. I have something to tell you.” Lithorien opens his eyes, and looks ahead. His father is bending over him, worried. Sweat beads are on his head, and he has a scratch along his left arm.
“Dad! What happened?” Lithorien arises, and looks at his father. “You look like you have just finished fighting.” Lithorien jumps out of bed, and makes for the cedar chest at the foot of his bed.
“Son, don’t worry. I just have to leave for a while.” Lithorien’s dad then grabs his arm, and pitches forward a step. “Ugh, and I must go now.” He then places an arm on the stairwell rail, and begins to walk down. “Don’t try to follow me.” Then he is gone.
Lithorien looks at where his father was in shock, his hands on the bow and string. He runs his hands down the Elven-hair cord, and sighs. “I didn’t have a chance to hold him back. And in his condition, he won’t live for more than a day.”
Lithorien then sits down, and looks closer at his bow. His father had given it to him for his 14th birthday, a year ago. It was carved with the pattern of leaves from end to end, save the very middle where the grip is. That is smooth, worn down by constant practice.
“I can’t just sit here like a fool,” said Lithorien, as he rose to string the longbow. He places a foot to brace the bottom of the Bow, and loops the Elven-hair upon the top of the bow. Securing it in place, he grabs his quiver, and straps it to his back.
Suddenly, he hears a scream from the kitchen below. “Who are you?” floats up the stairs, and Lithorien starts. He grabs an arrow, and nocks it. The sounds of a struggle beginning come to him from the stairs. “Mother?” he calls, and begins to run down the stairs.
The sight that greets him is a shock. A human male is standing over his mother, blood dripping off a long, twisted knife. The assassin gives a grin to Lithorien. “Hello, friend Elf. We must talk.”

Paft,

Age is not critical. Imagination is ever more so.

What is your drive to write poetry?

I guess it's depression, or anger.. any strong negative feeling. It seems a good way to calm myself, and to "hit the root of the matter"... you can find out a lot of things about yourself if you just look. :)
