RTCW Test 2 Demo.....

Post by YeOldeStonecat »

I've been running the Return to Castle Wolfenstein on our server for a while. The first version was quite customizable....I found a .script file in the \demomain\maps directory where you could edit the respawn times and cut them well back, as well as edit the server broadcast announcements, such as "The Sea Wall has been blown to fu&*ing pieces"...stuff like that.

Last night, we upped the server to Test 2. It seems that the .script file that was in the the above directory is no longer there, no longer used.

I poked around, found out how to open up .pk3 files....and didn't find it in there either.

Anyone know where this file or setting is in the 2nd demo? A lot of our regulars, including myself, really like the shortened 5 second respawn times...instead of the default 30 and 40 seconds.

Chacatako....so far I think Test 2 has increased bandwidth usage...my pings are higher. I used to ping from 18 - 30 on Test 1....right off the bat pinged at 80 - 100 on Test 2...played with the rates on the server..brought it down to 40 - 50...which is still way higher than my usual low 20's.

ZMoney....my server is 209.150.0.191

It runs 3x UT servers (public, private, match), mIRC, the UT clans website, map redirects, and the Wolf server.

Wolf server is usually up 24/7, except when the buggy little demo decides to crash itself, or when a UT clan match is going on, they kill the other servers temporarily to optimize bandwidth.

The .script is located in the pak0. but if you mess with it the game will not run.

To adjust charge times add these to your server.cfg
seta g_medicChargeTime "?????"
seta g_LTChargeTime "???????"
seta g_engineerChargeTime "??????"
seta g_soldierChargeTime "?????????"

To change respawn times add these

seta g_userAlliedRespawnTime "10"
seta g_userAxisRespawnTime "10"

OK...on the old server...I edited that .script file a LOT...but it wasn't in the pk3 file, it was in the program directory, \demomain\maps

Now in Test 2, it's somehow hidden in the pk3 file. I don't have any experience with playing with pak files, but if I open the pk3 file with Winzip 8....I cannot find this .script files...yet if I unzip the pk3 file into a directory...it creates many subdirectories..including maps and within that this .script file.

So I guess I'm asking how do I work with pak files, so I can expose this .script file to edit it and save it. I'm going to have to PcAnywhere into the server, and edit this file. I'm curious as to how I cannot see this file if I open the pk3 with Winzip, yet if I unzip, I can see it.

If you do edit the pak file you will render the game unplayable use the commands I have posted fpr you above

the reason you can't see the directiories in winzip is because you have that feature turned off...it's a setting in winzip...

You open winzip, in Classic mode, goto "options" then "configuration" then to the "system" tab up at the top...

you want to select "'Add to' includes subfolder information"

that should enable you to see all the folders...I think...
