D2X and Dialup

Post by DesertFox »

Been running D2X on a dial up conn at home, which is fairly good considering, and I saw that there are Battle.net optimizers out for starcraft and warcraft (which ping the server - legal - and set it in the registry which one has the fastest ping) but I haven't seen any out for Diablo 2 Servers, which would be nice. Second, are there any things that I can do to decrease lag or just make general game play better?

Note: I always run ICQ, Zone Alarm, and Norton, and won't stop those because security issues and icq becasue I like to talk to people (doesn't take up many system resources anyway).

Not sure about the ping program.

Couple of things you can do to speed it up. turn off the music when your playing online. Or, you can copy the music.mpq file from the cd to your diablo2 directory and it will not access the cd all the time when switching and playing music. If you have enviromental effects turned on, turn them off. I know you said you don't want to turn off ZA when playing, but I have seen a big difference with it off sometimes.

What kind of system are you running?

Already have turned off music.

I have the following comp:

Duron 800
Abit KT7A
256 mb Crucial (soon to be 768)
IBM Deskstar 7200rpm 41 gb
Geforce 2 MX
Sound Blaster Live
Pioneer 16x DVD
56k ISA Modem (which I know slows my system bus, but I don't have money to replace right now, am going to put it in a netbsd box soon).
