If both computers are behind the router, you don't need DMZ to play against each other. You'll see each other on the 192.168.1.XXX IP local LAN.

DMZ is only for making your server available to the public, "unhiding it" from behind the firewall.

DMZ host

Post by badgerjh »

When I connect to gamespy a message box comes up and says it doenst recognize my ip address and if I try to host a game without being dmz host the games wont work properly. I can connect to a game room but the second computer cant. Its like once second computer is connected that ip is taken and the other computer cannot join....

If you have two machines behind a router and one of them is DMZ, then logically only the DMZ host should be able to connect to the world. DMZ is anti-NAT. Without NAT each machine has to have its own IP address. Sounds from your post that you do not have the option of purchasing another IP address. I think you may well be screwed. I could be wrong....

Well here's the latest,,,,, going through the router both computers can access the internet, email each other and so on. Both computers can play online gaming but the only way they can play optimally is by ip game computer to computer that works fine. When one computer hosts a game via gamespyarcade the second computer cannot join because one has to be designated DMZ host according to the game server if I had a static ip all would be fine but cable co. doesnt issue static ips.... hopefull this will give you a rundown on the situation.......thanks for your reply.....

It's most likley going to be in the games options or config there should be some where in the game if you use a shortcut to launch the game it might be there in Quake you would put this in the command line of the short cut or the .cfg +set net_port 27960
