Choke in counter strike

Post by ImPAcT »

I was just wondering what Choke is in counter strike when you type net_graph 3?? I find that in combat this can spike upto 50++. Is there anything that can be done about this?? My ping also is unstable.

I know what loss is..(packet loss) although what is choke? Also packet loss is in direct relation to your ping I have noticed, when I'm losing around 20-100 pps(packets per sec I assume) my ping can rise to as high as 200+ if I'm losing only around 20pps then my ping only rises to around 150-160 on most servers. Just because you have a big loss and choke and a high ping on one server doesn't mean all servers will be that way. I just happened to find a good server(The SSC clan) which my ping was in the 50's on primetime around 4:00 pm.

P.S. I have cable.

Both packet loss and choke have a affect on ping.. I've noticed that when my Choke spikes to 50++ my ping jumps up from 100 to 500+++ and this is a real problem.

Choke is like network congestion, in this case internet congestion. It will affect your ping. Next time you see it do a traceroute and you'll probably see where the "choke" is between you and the server.
