Cable vs. DSL
Cable vs. DSL
Where I live @home cable is the best! My uncle can download up to 900kb/second *CONSTANT*!!!
He had Verison and it sucked ass. He downloaded at like 200kb/second.
If you live in a smaller hood I'd go with cable (Less people to share with). If you live in a bigger hood I'd go with cable!!!
LOL, DSL SUCKS!!!! i have it and i wished i could get cable!!!!!!!!!
@home you kick ass baby!!!!! u shud extend your areas tho!! hehe i want you bad

I see you haven't seen the trillions of others posts on this topic, where the real answer isn't on immature opinions, but the results of several factors, some you can't control, some you can.
What counts is....
Cable or DSL....which is better for you:
***Depends on what you do...heavy online gaming (like me, I prefer to have the lowest ping on the server, I don't care if my downloads a minute longer than my buddies on cable)...so I choose DSL.
***Depends on where you live, and which ISP's are in your area. Some areas have fantastic Cable....I've read many good things about Optimum Online...wish I could get it. But the majority are some varieties of @home...of which you'll see a lot of unhappy users here. Some areas are lucky, and have a well managed @home office, others have a poorly managed office. And on the DSL side, some areas you are stuck with the crappy local phone company only for DSL (which is where you got your opinion of DSL), and other areas, or through careful customer selection done by using his/her head, you have the option of using a quality ISP for your DSL, like I did.
***Cable usually beats local phone company DSL in downloading and online gaming pings. But it's not a constant performance. Run some tests early in the morning, middle of the day, early evening, and late evening...you'll get different results each time. But take DSL with a quality ISP...and most importantly for me, I'll outping cable and phone company DSL all day long....with a consistant score.

...anyhow, dsl/cable option is alot like audio speakers. everyone has their own tastes. Some people prefer the sounds of a cheaper speaker over the hi-fi 3000$ model. some people like 300k/sec downloads....some want lower pings. etc If you want low pings/consistent bandwith, then DSL is more likely to be the choice. Then again, my cable is generally excellent with gaming pings. It's all up to whatever locale you live in, the isps and other options available to each individual server.

Ok, it depends on what you're planning to do on the internet. If you're looking for faster downloads, then cable is for you, if it's available. But if you're looking to get away from 56k, and cable isn't available to you and dsl is, then dsl service is for you because anything beats the old 56k modem. I got cable because I wanted faster downloads, I was sick of using the internet at 56K, and I do get low pings under 150ms to every US servers. Oversea servers, I get between 135-200ms depending on where the servers are located at.
A good cable isp, like Roadrunner, depending of your area, can give you lower pings for gamers and stuff than the basic DSL service can. Two yrs ago, I got Roadrunner service because I was sick of dialup, and I didn't want to use any kind of PPPOE software. Cable is usually cheaper than DSL, or the same price with dsl. Also if you want to run servers, a good dsl isp is for you. But some dsl isps doesn't allow you to run servers but you can with a commerical account.
I'm in SouthWestern Bell-Land, there's not alot of dsl internet service providers that do serve my area except for SWB, Cjonline.com, Prodigy thru SWB, networkplus.net, and some other regional ISPs. That's why I choose cable, because I don't have to use PPPOE, and cable is $20 cheaper here, and has more faster downloads(I get download speeds of 200-350 kb/sec when downloading consistently at fast servers). I love my cable modem service, it's consistent, and very fast. But Roadrunner is capped at 3000 mbps down/256 kbps up, because it's from Cox Communications, and Roadrunner can be more faster than it is now. I don't know how many folks have RR in my neighborhood, but I get fast speeds at all times of the day: peak time, wee hrs, non peak time, weekdays, weekends.

I have PPPoA DSL....no PPPoE....and I dig my 20 - 40 pings....sometimes it creeps up int othe 60 - 80 on bad servers.
And downloads....heh, I have a 6 meg DSL line at the office....and the office is 3 blocks from the CO...talk about some sick download rates!
But here's the best part.....the ISP I have my DSL line with....I built and co-admin some pretty popular public gaming servers which are located right in their server room. Quake2, Quake3, Unreal Tournament, and my late fave...Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Plenty of other gaming servers up there too. Since I have DSL with them, I have 3 hops (including my router)...and usually ping from 15 - 25....maybe 35 on a really busy day. I've been to LAN parties with more lag...LOL. Now THAT'S some key stuff for a hardcore online gamer.

i got @home
i get like 2000/100 at peak times and up to 3500/120 during the night. I used to have dsl where I got about 1300/700 consistantly. They are both good. No outages. I like being able to download really fast with @home but that upload was sweet with my Verizon dsl.
