Getting @HOME cable on friday...

Post by crazyjw1971 »

I'll be switching from Verizon DSL to Comcast@HOME on Friday.

What EXACTLY do I have to do to set this thing up? I damned sure dont want to install their software! Or will all the info i need be provided to me?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated...

THANKS!!!

no, don't install the software. my conn works almost perfect without it, and the few errors that i have are because of me meddling with my registry ... and not backup up (pretty stupid, right?). SO DON'T INSTALL THE SOFTWARE cuz it's almost impossible to remove completely.

Those bastards didnt show up. Then they told me that they did. I was PISSED. Then after throwing a fit, they tell me that they cant accept any new installs due to @HOME's Bankuptcy situation. After waiting so damn long, now I have to wait longer due to some dumb B.S. I might just stay with Verizon...

Before they do show up, make sure you uninstall WinPoEt, if you have not already done so.

OK... Now what?

Post by crazyjw1971 »

I get a call from Comcast. They're coming on Saturday to install me, since they're helping @HOME bail themselves out of the B.S. that they're in.

We'll see what happens...

Wish me luck!

Stay with verizon..

Post by da0618 »

Stay with verizon, unless you wan't slower then dialup speeds at night, 600+ pings, and intermitent service. This is what 90% of comcast customers in maryland are experiencing at 5PM-12PM or so. Anyway, enjoy your service :)

No need to install the software...

My uncle has @home. He just explored the folder and found the only thing you need just to get you connected. It's one little file. I can't remember which one it is. Give my uncle an email @ ChrisB8084@home.com

He'll tell you the instructions...

Jordan

PS-Tell him Jordan refered him to you. :)

Sorry to hear that.

Our cable service just had the download caps removed.

Back in February Cap's were installed to limit our DL to 1.2 Mbit/ second. If you hit the caps, traceroute pings showed 600ms+ Pings, which shows your data stream hit the maximum allowed by modem (or your ISP's server is overloaded can do that too).

Anyhow We were 6.5 MBit/second before that.

Well, now I can DL at 6.5 Mbit/second (from sites that can pump it to me) again.

And when I'm downloading at that speed, my ping to sites three states away are not burdoned and stay 21 to 47 MS (thats Seattle to Austin Texas for the Pings of 47ms while downloading at 6.5 Mbit/ second from ftp.lucasarts.com - I can download dforces1.zip which is 3.3Megabyte zip file in under 6 seconds)

You need TCI/IP installed and bound to your network card.
Everything set up to DHCP "Automatic get IP, No DNS, etc, just don't add anything and you'll be fine.

You do need to set your computer name on the Network Identification page to the computer name on your @home paperwork.

2 Steps, not too hard, now is it?
