Sick and tired...

Post by jordanw77 »

I'm fed up with this local DSL provider. They are the only DSL provider around here so there is no competition so they can charge what ever they ****ing want. I pay $56.00/month for 320k SDSL. It's very good service but not fast enough and it's way to exspensive!!! Is there like any other providers I could try. I know like Telocity isn't offered out here. I need something wireless...

Dude, I live in the country. The only ISP that is offered here is my local one. Isn't there something that is wireless that is atleast faster than 320k? I WILL NOT GO BACK TO DIAL UP. That was a dumb statement!!!!

There are a couple of things you need to consider before making a final decision. First, making comments like "that was a dumb statement!!!" aren't going to win you any friends here.

You came here looking for feedback and someone responded with 2 options for you. You may not like the response and aren't obligated to use the options provided, but minimizing someones responses is not respectful.

With that said....wireless services tend to add latency to your connection and are highly dependent upon line of site, usually 30 or so miles max distance from the ISP's wireless transmitter. Satellite introduces the absolute highest latency to your connection as the data travels over very long distances. As for fixed wireless options they tend to be very close to the same price your paying now for DSL and are usually only moderately higher in speed. The largest provider of these fixed wireless services is http://www.sprintbroadband.com and offers speeds up to 3Mbit/256k.

As for regional providers I would consult this website and compare prices and speeds.

Sprint Broadband no longer accepts new customers.

I guess those of us who have good service are lucky.

56 dollars ain't bad. I pay near 84 something all told and done between local phone co. line charges, and my ISP monthly charge because I use BizOnlines DSL, not the crappy local phone company. But it's rocking service...very happy with it. Sure, DSL with the local phone company is only 49 bucks...about half what I pay, but the performance would be less than half as good as I have now.

Jordon,
I charge people $52.00 a month for cable modem service. With my cable modem service $52.00 a month will get 500 both ways. If they stayed with dial-up they might get 25 to 32.
What you need to remember it that with more people that cost should (not in all places) come down.
