Rwin Value

Post by Marcelleander »

Please help me here people!!

According to your cable tweak my Rwin value should be 256960 but i get the best result when it is set at 10220. How is that possible???

my settings are:

TCP options string = 020405b401010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 10220
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 10220
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 408.8 kbps (51.1 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 163.52 kbps (20.44 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = OFF

Time to live left = 44 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

My ISP is Chello (Holland) and my specs are Pent III 550 256mb

Thanks guys!! eek:

I'm just wondering how this Windowsize would work for you?

286160

I worked this one out from your MSS. (1460 * 7) * 4 = 286160
Let me know if it's any good for you.

Then if that is no good. Go back to:

10220

Thanx man but I still get the best with 10220. according to the tcp/ip analyser I am limmited to 40kb/sec at 500ms. what does that mean because i have downloadsspeeds up to 170 kb/sec.

The 500ms is example of Slow or Peak internet times.

200ms is basic avarage of what speed you'll get.

So on a bad day perhaps you will get only 40k with that
RecieveWindow. If it's working good then don't worry too much
about it.

nope Cablenut is not installed, i tried it before but it doesn't really make a difference. I was just curious if I was limmited in receiving data because my Rwin value is a bit low compared to the speedguide tweaks. But 10220 really works very good for my cableinternet.

Thanx anyway guys!!

Cablenut won't make a difference until you start putting recommanded values in the right place. It make things a lot easier instead of going to the registry. Link below if you want to download it again. :)
