Post by Jester_RU »

I have a cable connection with a 4 port linksys hooked up. Webpages and downloads work pretty good. I download from 15Kbps + (i know thats really bad for a cable to) but my internet gaming just plan SUCKS!!!!! I cant keep a connection to a server and my pings are FREAKIN' HUGE!! I'm talking pings 5000+ Does anybody have any idea why my cable connection sucks so bad. I mean good lord, I bought this thing for a better gaming exerience and it just made it worse!

I know some people here will call me crazy but call your cable co. and let them know what is happening maybe they can fix it, maybe not. If not then maybe someone here can help you, from what I know(which is not a whole lot) there are many things other than your pc that can be wrong.

peace

Thanks for the info man... I've tried calling my cable company and they keep telling me that they have sent somebody out to "Turn up the levels" in my area. But i see no improvements. On well... i knew having a fast internet connection was to good to be true.

Try throughout diff. times of the day, hopefully you will talk to someone who does care and is not just trying to find a quick way out. the same thing happened to me. Fast cable is not too much to ask for, although i didn't know so many ppl had capped connecs.

good luck

hi m8,

i used to have a 4 port linksys router and i had a fair amount of problems, in the end it just died. i now have a different router.

my advice to u m8 is mess around with your router. thats probably the problem, but then again i have had a problem with my cable before as well :(

good luck m8 :D

I'm having the same problem Jester. @Home says they have a worm virus on their network that is causing the huge pings. They don't know when the problem will be fixed. I'm switching to DSL.

A long time ago someone here said that ISP's did not care about gaming problems.
Maybe this is still true?

Capped connection = restricted downloading and uploading speeds set by ISP.
