Video Card Drivers

Post by jordanw77 »

recently had Windows M.E. I switched to Windows 2000 Pro. I got all the new video card drivers for my graphics card, but my FPS are really low. Before I had 71 on Windows M.E. now I'm only getting about 25 FPS. I don't want to go back to Windows M.E. What should I do. Please help! I want to get back to gaming!!!!

PS-I have the Geforce 2 MX 200.

Which Detonator drivers are you using? The latest 20.81 XP drivers do work on older GF2 cards, but really shine best with GF3 cards. Did you try going back to the 12.41 drivers?

What is your CPU and RAM....Win2K being a much more bloated OS than even ME, it's a RAM and CPU hog. Open GL games, being native to Windows NT, run equal or better on 2K than 9X, but DX games generally run much better on 9X than NT.

Im using the newest drivers from Nvidia. The 21.81 for Windows 2000/XP. No, I have not tried using the 12.41 drivers. I have p4 1.4 GHz and 128 MB RDRAM. Should I upgrade my ram?

something is not right somewhere... almost ALL nvidia cards run identical in either OS.

i dont see how switching OS's could drop your fps that low.

Also run any game you can in open GL its fast on NT

128 is quite weak for 2K, I'd say yes, up your RAM, it's barely 20 bucks now to double what you have. I don't have the patience to sit down at a 2K machine unless is has at least 256 megs, preferably at least 384....I don't care if you have a 2 gig rig. You're hitting your hard drive right now pretty hard running whatever game you're playing. But if you stand still in the game so your level isn't changing and loading new stuff in the tiny bit of RAM you have, your lack of memory should no longer impact you, and you should be able to get a better feel of your vid card to get an FPS count.

I didn't realize RDRAM was so cheap. Where are you buying your ram?

I agree with YeOldeStonecat, I would want the 256meg of Ram for a NT based BOX.

Yet that is one heck of a dip in fps. U would think your problem would be more than just the RAM. BUT since I dont have WIN2K installed I cant say. I am still NT4 on everything at work and use ME and 98 at home.

The extra RAM will definitly smooth your rig out, cant go wrong with 256meg of RAM.

None else. Easy to wade through menu to find the exact RAM for your rig.
