Best AV app for XP
Now that InnoculateIT is no longer free, can anybody suggest a good alternative? I've used Norton Antivirus before, as well as
McAfee, but wanted to see if there were something better. Thanks for any advice you can give.

Good question
I posted that same question before here and got no responses.
However, I have installed NORTON 2002 (hate it) but it works, until AVG comes out with a version which is compatible with XP.
Here are some others I am told that works.... not tested by me.
NOD32 (found at here
Mcaffee
Kasperisky (This is Russian and I can't understand a word on their web page)
Good Luck
PEACE!!!!!

BTW...take a look at this thread click

Hey Mrgone
Here is a transcript of a reply I received from AVG
This AV I highly recommend... you can ask croc or norm to verify their opinions.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUOTE
Under Windows XP,
there could be warning "the software is not compatible with
Windows XP" - in such case, please ignore the warning and
install the software anyway. We can support Windows XP
since version AVG Anti-Virus 6.0.273
END QUOTE
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope this helps...... as soon as I get home I will be removing Norton 2002 and reinstalling AVG 6.0.273.
PEACE!!!!

Kasperisky, is actually a very good antivirus. I use it, under windows 2000 and i am not sure if it works in XP. They have both english website and russian website. The antivirus name is AVP. I like it so far it is running on one of my machines and Norton Corparate 7.5 on the other.

If you are intrested and u like it I can get u a key so it works for free untill 2003.

Would I find AVG from that http://www.kaspersky.com site? I'm willing to try anything that won't keep bugging me with "Hey buddy, wanna buy me know?" messages.

Also, if you are running IE5.5 or IE5.01 with SERVICE PACK 2 you should be ok.
AVG has a fix in it's latest update and yes you should check to see if you have the latest updates even though you have just d/loaded the program.
R/click the AVG icon/open Control Center/open Update Manager/click on "Update Now".
With this one it should request a reboot after the d/load of 1.775 meg.
Hope this helps.
