CMOS Battery Woes

Post by 64bit »

Hi. Well This Sucks. The retention clip thats held my cmos battery in was broken of by my stupidity. The question now is can anyone think of a solid way to hold it in place? Its the coin cell type.

If there is open pvc (no circuitry devices) in two areas on either side of the battery brace, then I would drill two 1/8" holes on either side of the battery brace, replace the battery, and weave a zip tie through the two holes, over the batter, and securing the battery in place. Don't worry if the zip tie is toughing anything, it won't conduct electricity.

Drilling the holes in your motherboard will void your warranty. However, it sounds like you might have voided your warranty already by breaking the batter brace.

If I were you, I would find out whether or not the board is still under warranty.

Good luck.

Thanks for the response. Naw I aint worries about the warranty. This is just an old emachines i picked up a couple of years ago and I should have read something before I just tried to pry that sucker of. In fact i should have know something was wrong when it took more thatn ample pressure to break the damn thing :D All my other boards are the opposite; just lift and remove. Oh well at least I have been reminded to look before leaping. As for the suggestion it seems there is to many leads and the like around the area so Im gonna have to do something else.

I would NOT do that! Your motherboard has 4 layers to it. How can you tell if there are important connections in those layers you cant see?
